my racquet has a tension range between 50-56lbs. Can I string this one higher with multifilament? How about poly?

Regarding the type of string, it doesn't matter whether its multi or poly, either can handle the tension. The only string that I know of that can't handle too high a tension is natural gut. I have a friend who regularly strings his syn guts @ 76 lbs. however, you should probably not string poly @ the same tension as multi. It should go 10 to 15% looser than multi. If you regularly string multi @ 60, then you should string poly less, say around 52 lbs. You'll actually get a very similar feel since poly is significantly stiffer than multi. But by all means, go forth and experiment! |

thanks anubis. i'm just afraid to go above the recommended tension because i have a prince o-port racquet before and somebody string my racquet at 56lbs of luxillon poly string. hit with it for two hours and noticed a crack after the game.
i want to put multifilament on the cross and smooth poly on the main. im thinking of about 60lbs for the multifilament and 52lbs on poly main. Is that okay? watcha think? |

My racquet's range is 55-65. I string in the high 40s.

You can get away with a few lbs higher on a lock out machine.
I would avoid it on a constant pull. It's not just the frame, it's the grommets as well. 8 lbs diff and going above rec is asking for trouble, IMO.

You can certainly string higher but it'll just reduce the playing life of your racquet even more and put it at risk of cracking.
I frankly don't see the benefit of stringing over 60lbs. Personally I would be a bit worried everytime I take a full blooded swing on a fast incoming ball. If you need that much control, switch to a more flexible lower powered racquet. Last edited by Jay_The_Nomad : 10-05-2012 at 11:20 PM. |

^^ That really is a pathetic range, I've never heard of one less than 5lbs unless it was 55-60.

I think 4 pounds difference is as far as you need to go. Remember, the poly will lose tension faster than the multi, usually.
