Well since I had the OneX droid which competes with the S3 I feel I have perspective here. I see the S3 all the time as 2 friends have one, and one is selling his for an iphone.

I dont really care what Cnet says because I owned the best droid phone and it is not even a comparison. Even the droid guys in here admit Cnet is not the best review source.

Here we go again with the sheep comment. It's hilarious.

I'm a sheep because I had the best droid and it is afar laggier and gets a lot worse battery life with the same usage as my I5? ok...lol.

The multitasking comment is HILARIOUS. The HTC I had has the worst multitasking I have ever seen and HTC says they dont see the need to fix it. It is terrible. Go ahead and google that. I love how ios works because - it saves battery life..crazy!!

I am not sure what light usage is, but the whole thing about iphones being puny etc has been my point all along. The iphone5 has benchmarked to be the fastest phone on the market so ask yourself, does it matter what is inside? It is just a testament to iOS being the best mobile OS.

So in terms of holding a candle, look at the benchmarks posted multiple times throughout this thread. It is incredible how beefed up the droids are yet the OS and the stupid interfaces overlayed by other phone companies just ruin it.

I know nobody here truly likes Touchwiz or Sense overlayed over their droid OS..i mean let's be honest here.

Plus I have no carrier logo pasted on my phone..or bloatware in my phone..nothing. That is how it should be.

Ill pull out my trump card - racquet tune app

But in all seriousness, amazing app..get it if you have an iphone.

You are speaking as a user. I am speaking as an engineer. As I said, if you don't care about IOS's "limited" multitasking, then no worries, more power to you. Just wanted you to see why you are seeing the results you are seeing. As I said, I like Apple devices, it's just that I don't have the extreme view of "IOS versus the droids" that you seem to have. In general, there are no free lunches: All else being equal, if your device is doing exceptionally well at something, then it is usually giving up on something else.

BTW, HTC does not do the multitasking. It only "skins" the phone. The multitasking is baked into the android OS.

To a user? No.
To a nerd? Yes. I am a nerd .

I like Sense. Many people do. The point is that you can configure launchers to your heart's content on an android phone. Not so for an IOS device. Again, if you're not the tinkering kind, this won't matter to you. I am the tinkering kind, so it matters to me.

I've decided to get an iPhone 5 when my Samsung Galaxy S2 contract is up for renewal next year.

Not because I think its significantly better - the S3 / iPhone5 are as good as each other in my view - but because having had a lifetime of PC/Microsoft/Android, I actually do miss the 'Apple experience' so fancy a bit of a change.

My only Apple device at the moment is a clickwheel iPod which has just been great in every way and actually prefer it to the touchscreen versions. Think I need some more 'Appleness' in my life.

If the boot was on the other foot and I had owned an iPhone 1-4 previously, I'd probably be choose an S3.

Variety, spice of life, and all that.

Yes and as I have said throughout, the droid appeals to folks like you, and it makes total sense. Nothing wrong with that.

I rooted, Romd..etc and to be honest I hated it. It was always something..update this..download this app to install a new Bootloader..etc..I realized I need a phone that is reliable, super fast and looks great.

You are correct, I am speaking as a user for sure. I will be the first to admit I love simplicity in tech even though I can build a PC on my own and do many nerdy things.

Dont think my views are that extreme in all honesty. I have IOS vs Droid because that is all I have used for the past 3-4 years.

I think other phones will come out to challenge ios, but I dont believe droid is there yet for the user.

Sense is actually pretty good. But there are also many different type of 'launchers' so if you don't like Touchwiz for example you can replace it with something else to your hearts content.

If you've never used an Apple device before, there is a good chance that you will enjoy the user experience.

One thing i am noticing is how much better the email is on ios. Sense just sucked with outlook and the gmail app was counterintuitive. The main thing i hated was the look of the emails that had html.

So i basically just use the apple mail app for outlook and gmail and it works flawlessly.

Thought i had an issue with push email, but it is working exactly how i wanted it.

No worries. I understand, of course. Have fun with the device. When all is said and done, it is a beautiful thing to own, so you should derive the most possible enjoyment from it. My issue is just when people (on both sides) go beyond "This is awesome!" to assert "This thing rocks and that thing sucks."

The Gmail search does not work very well in iOS.

I just spent 10 minutes trying to edit a contact on my Mom's Android phone. It was some crazy fast swipe back and forth. Good lord, I just don't jive with the Android software yet I love most of the Google desktop software.

Yes I agree. Just coming from Droid I am stunned at how much easier I jive with the iphone as Mikeler said. Also knew I would love the phone, but didnt expect such a fast responding device with such a deep and rich screen. That is the only way I can describe this screen.

And gmail search is a little off on iOS. You have to make sure you select all when you do a search or it just looks at the sender and you never find anything. I agree with that.

It will be great, I'm sure. I'm never seen a crap Apple device. I'll get TomTom to sort out the mapping issue and hope that during the lifetime of my contract, they introduce their interpretation of widgets / live tiles. If they don't, then its S4 come next renewal time!

PS. Actually, I did have a question - the iPhone 5 does have hotspot tethering doesn't it? ie it can act as a Wifi hotspot?

Yes, it can. Some carriers charge extra for you to use it. Others (AT&T Mobile Share and Verizon Share Everything) offer it at no extra charge. Note that you will drain your monthly data quota when you use the feature.

Been using an andriod for the past three years. Admittedly, my last andriod phone wasn't the "smartest" of smart phones out of the box, which arguably might skew the andriod influence. Regardless, the few other andriod phones I've demo'd in the past year as loaner phones were great, including the Galaxy S II and the HTC incredible S.

But as mentioned by Torres, variety is the spice of life so I've opted to go for the iphone 5 when I renew my contract. Never had an iphone and have heard great things about its intuitive user-friendlyness, why not give it a go?

I'm trying to decide whether I want to go iPhone 5 or go Android. I currently have an iPhone 4, but I'm finding it too slow for my liking. The new hardware on the iPhone 5 is quite appealing as it has a faster processor, better camera, etc. However, I'm also finding that as I do a lot of web browsing and occasionally watch videos on my phone, I could benefit from a larger screen size. So I'm currently scanning the market for new phones. I want to see how big the new Note 2 actually is.

Screen size - s3
web browsing - i5..it is fast. rather instantaneous
speed - i5
movies - s3, but i definitley would like to see what a movie looks like on this i5 screen..youtube looks excellent in the jasmine app.
Thought id add audio - the iphone is very impressive and loud for music. much louder than my droid that had beats in it. One reason I think is because beats boosts low frequencies which are worthless in headphones and suck out all the headroom.

Size is the thing..I like the small iphone..easier to thumb text and fits so much better in the pocket..but if you are thinking about the note, then thats not an issue.

The S3 is now six months old so that's half a life time in phone years, so the S4 will be interesting.
