Default Why does Haas wear Nike clothes and Asics shoes?

Does he not have a Nike contract anymore?

Doesn't mean he doesn't still have a contract. Unlike clothing which is pretty universal apart from style, shoes actually effect performance. So if Haas doesn't like the new Nikes he is going to go with the shoe that best suits his foot and improves his game. . Most contracts give the athlete the option to not use the product if it will hinder performance. Which is fine because they have have other options like PJs, but unlike rackets, it is pretty much impossible to put a PJ on a shoe

Didn't Haas lose many contracts because he always wore apparel from competitor brands?

Not true. Several pros wear paintjobbed shoes, including Federer and Nadal. They wear shoes that only look like the retail versions but really are completely different shoes. So you can pretty much make a shoe to look like just about anything you want.

Well, I have never seen an Adidas Feather shoe with a Nike Vapor PJ on it...

Maybe you just didn't know because the great paintjob fooled you?

Most people, other than on this board, don't even know many pros use paintjobbed racquets. Hard to tell on TV or even in person.

Haha, maybe you are right!
The whole PJ business is getting to be a little too much for my liking, but that
is a different topic I guess....

Good thing someone started a thread about this because it hasn't been discussed at all in the last two years.

Tommy was dropped by Nike a few years ago, I think it was around the time they dropped Hewitt. At various times since then he has signed with Asics, K-Swiss, Limited Sports, and I think there was one other company in there somewhere. Not sure what happened with Limited, but he lost his KSwiss and Asics contracts because he kept wearing other clothes and shoes in practices (and a few matches).

He did start wearing a black Nike shirt, then changed into a blue shirt and then changed again into a black/white Asics shirt. It makes no sense.

He had an Asics endorsement before he started winning again. Then Nike took him back, but he still has a ton of Asics gear with him. I think it's refreshing that he doesn't take it so seriously.

I question whether Nike has taken him back. While practicing in Cincy this year his nike shirt and shorts looked old and tattered. I think they were leftovers from his Nike contract days. His shoes and socks were Asics and for his match the next day against Nalbanian he wore the same. Nike logo on shorts was practically worn off.

Tommy does not have a contract with anyone. Sheesh, if he had a Nike contract you would know it, he would be head to toe in their stuff and carry a bag as well. Even their Challenger level players look better than Tommy.

Tommy's last contract was K-Swiss. He bailed on that and he's been wearing his own clothes ever since.
