Default Rainer Schuettler Retires

Major props to Rainer. Always a tough out and hung around until the end of his career. Good example for younger and recreational players that even with less talent and smaller stature you can still compete with the top guns.

He had some good runs in majors, with the 2003 Australian Open and 2008 Wimbledon. He had a very good 2003, with nice wins over Roddick at the Australian Open and the Masters Cup in Houston. He also reached the 2004 Monte Carlo final, but got demolished in 3 straight sets by Coria. I also remember an epic tiebreak he had with Clement in their 2008 Wimbledon quarter final match, where Schuettler led 6-0, Clement got it back to 6-6, before Schuettler won it 8-6.

Despite spending much of his career as a journeyman type player, he was pretty good to watch. I hope he has a good retirement.

Will always remember that 2003 Australian Open run; perhaps he might have won if he had not met Agassi, who at that time was just playing so well on rebound ace. Thanks for the memories Rainer!

Will always remember him for ruining Nalbandian and Roddick run to the 2003 Aussie final.
