Default Am I crazy for playing with a wooden Dunlop from the 70's?

Title says is all. I recently picked up this racquet and decided to go hit around a little bit with it. I was getting much more spin and an insane amount of feel from the racquet. Volleys were a dream and serves were as well. I've won two USTA matches with it so far and was wondering why I have so much success with it. Everything on it is original.

Anything works so long as you hit the sweetspot, I won a couple sets the other day with my Jimmy Connors woodie. It really makes one focus on his technique and hit the ball square. Plus you have to think and strategize more to prevent having to hit with it on the run.

Yes, you are, but it's a good kind of crazy.

Wish there were more like you out there.

I especially enjoy getting into my opponents head and this racquet easily allows me to do this with every ace or winner I hit. Did I just hit an ace on you with a 70's grandpa stick? Oh yes I did!

No, you used your Grand Pa's racket from the 1970's.

You are bringing a knife to a gun fight and so far you have been very lucky or have faced inferior opponents. Wood racquets are fun to play with now and then but there is good reason they have gone the way of the dinosaur. Nature, or in this case tennis, has chosen them for extinction.

My motto with this racquet is "bring a knife to a gunfight and stab them while their laughing". And yes the matches I won were in 5.0 singles and am in the process of moving up to the dreaded 5.5, but my opponents definitely did not lack skill.

Go for it S&V...!!!
I play with wood regularly and beat opponents of any level and skill.
And I would say, you don't bring a knife but a Confederate Colt to the fight against a modern Beretta.........a gun is a gun. It's up to the user to know how to handle it.
