Any Sections looking particularly strong this year? Only 2 weeks or so to go before everyone heads to Tucson.

don't know what you guys are talking about having 4.0 kick serves into the stands lulz, but I played 4.5 nationals last year and the level was right on par for top 4.5 and low 5.0. Nationals is the best of the best for their respected level but perhaps maybe one or two players above the rest. Stop whining and make it to nationals.

"don't know what you guys are talking.... Stop whining and make it to nationals."

Many of us have no desire to play .5 to 1.0 below our actual levels just for the chance to play against other sandbaggers for the right to be national sandbagging champs.

To each his own though I guess.

i am going to tri level nationals as a 4.5, and i know at sectionals the ppl there were above 4.5 so i am expecting some sandbagging. but if everyone is sangbagging doesnt that kind of just make 4.5 a better level of play overall. i know around here the 4.5 leagues have a wide spectrum of players because the 5.0 league is basically non-existent.

first of all, play in nationals first before you say everyone is sandbagging.

I love how some people are so quick to blame the usta and sandbaggers for ruining the league and making it impossible for themselves to improve. its these people who make excuses and give up....OR even better get bumped down on purpose to win at 3.5

Our 4.5 league is so weird, there are really two types of 4.5s. 4.5a is a player who trained seriously some time in the past, they may not be training now. 4.5b is a rec player who has worked his way through the ranks, these players have never really trained seriously.

I don't know anything about any of the other regions, but Huntsville's Southern teams seem to have 4.0 Nationals down to a science.

The entire 2012 team almost all got bumped up on early rating. Very impressive.

^^^^ that is like the Florida 4.0 team going to Nationals. Play in Tampa area - 7 guys(I think 7 is the number) got bumped up. the funny part is the "self rating". One college player - 3 years Division One '94-'96. One player played at two separate colleges, 3rd player won the Florida State High School Title in 1990. They all self rated at 4.0

Based on the limited info provided, the division 1 player is improperly self-rated...that is, if he actually played any matches for the division 1 school.

The second player who played at two separate colleges, he may actually be properly self-rated...just depends on what level he played at and his age. NAIA, Division 2/3 36 years old or older can self-rate at 4.0 level.

Finally, the Florida State HS state champion in 1990...I'm sure he's over the age of 36 now given the year he won State and, if so, without having any Division 1 college experience, he is properly self-rated per the guidelines.

An amusing thing happened at the 3.0 Nationals this past weekend: a player was complaining to the scorekeeper desk, a player just got off a court and was complaining that the person that just beat him was no 3.0 because he himself was a 4.0 and was killed by his opponent. There is definitely a problem with the USTA rating system when you have players serving at 120mph @75%. There were many competitive matches, but there were definitely some players way above their "3.0" rating. It was too bad, but that's the system we have to deal with if we want to play USTA.

Heard that nearly 30 yrs ago. 4.0 in his mind. Our super seniors serve 120 mph 2nd serves with hip replacements and those are the ladies playing mxd doubles. It's tough all over.

Southern section dropped their first one 2-3.

One of my mixed dubs players is in that flight!
