Meza won his consolation singles match over Hanzlik on Penn State 6-1 6-3. Has Cambier of Oregon next.

Illini Farris Gosea faces Clemson's Yannick Maden in the 1st round. Good luck to both!

Good luck Satsuma.

The Maden bros take out the FSU team of Cotrone and Reed to qualify. Tough draw now as they get the #1 seed Scholtz and Lutjen.

Maden def Gosea 6-4 6-2.

He gets Mies next. They have played once before, a match in which Mies was leading 6-3 5-3 before the match was called because Auburn beat Clemson. This is a bad match-up for Maden. Mies swats Maden's deep angled shots without much problem.

Looks like Maden beat Mies in three sets. Did anyone see the LiveStats up through the end? Maden was up a break in the third (after losing an early break advantage) the last time I saw it.

Maden was up 4-2 then 5-3 and he served it out up 5-4.

Yes! That's a massive win for Maden. He must have played a grat match to knock of Mies. That win will keep his ranking up all year.

KU Singh is good but beatable. We will see what happens.

I have not seen Mies or Maden played ever before this match this afternoon, but just from looking at court manner, Maden is much more calm and collected, did not seem bothered at all by the condition (13-17 mph winds that kinda swivel). Meanwhile, Mies was clearly annoyed at something from the start of the match, he was yelling and clearly showed signs of frustration but somehow pulled out of the first set. Later on in the second and third set, while Maden continues to play patiently while Mies was just rushing to finish points. It's a good win though, since Mies does seem to have more power and heavy ground strokes from both wings.

Maden is always calm on the court. His strength is that everything he does seems planned and it's evident he knows what he is doing. He can get overpowered though and the match I saw last year Mies was clicking. But Maden probably out manuevered him and as you said out-thinked him on the court.

Some new commitments for 2013, looks like a pretty American class.

5 star from Stockbridge,GA, Zachary Kennedy
5 star from Elgin,SC, Brent Lett
4 star from Hilton Head, Christian Harris
4 star from Macon,GA, Daniel Strawn
and a player from Bulgaria, Karen Khachatryan

This class does not excite me much. The players look average like lower line-up type players not really good enough to challenge the top or move us up in the ACC. There is no info on the Bulgarian player, can't find any results.
Kennedy looks like the best of these players.

Im with you. If it were 100% American players, I would be excited. But as a Clemson alum and a taxpayer in the great state of SC, I'm tired of seeing the tennis roster outsourced. Too bad Clemson can't pull the best talent out of the HHI academies.

With me? I have never advocated American players over foreigners. I'd take a top ranked player from Europe or Asia or anywhere over 4 star American players or even 5 star.

Perhaps these American players are ones that have not peeked yet and therefore can improve, unlike players in the past we have recruited like Moran and Fleck.

Where does these kids typically go, if there is a school that typically lands these kids? USCe?

They still don't have a roster or coaching staff up on their website. How much confidence would you have in a program that can't even manage to get a roster up on a website?

4 out of 5 recruits listed were American, and that is not good enough?

Our SI for mens tennis is a joke. He's stuck in the 1980's stats programs and cares nothing about tennis. I have actually made info sheets and articles for the games on my own before and submitted them to university platforms.

Wow, that's just sad. I got frustrated with the Illinois people for being slow and started my own site but it is nothing like what you have to deal with. My condolences.
