I know that Nalbandian went 1-2 in the 2006 ATP World Tour finals to make the semifinals.
Are there other instances where a player went 1-2 in the round robin and made the semifinals? How about instances where a player went 2-1 in the round robin and did not make the semifinals? |

the first case is a bit uncommon, the second one, not that much ...
murray was 2-1 in the YEC in 2009 and was eliminated in the RR ....

that no-one (in more than 40 years of the tournament) has ever lost more than one match and gone on to win the tournament.

also ferreira in 1995 and gottfried in 1976. nalbandian is indeed the only one to have reached the SF after losing 2 matches... but it also happened in the WTA year-end masters (and possibly also in double, but i'm lazy to check it at the moment). |
