I think what has happened here is that our man can't spell anything, and is thus left with band names that are acronyms.
no excuse for not plumping for NKOTB, really, but a good enough reason to avoid Nickelback (certainly a contender) and the excruciatingly horrible 'Eddy Current Suppression Ring' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-qiZ...eature=related

Love REM. We've got practically all of their albums around the house. I'm not too fond of the peppers though. They just don't have a sound that I find very appealing.

so you would genuinely suggest that Nickelback or Creed are actually NOT contenders for worst bands of all time?
good grief and can you honestly listen to the opening verses of 'Under the Bridge' or 'The One I love' (just examples) and declare them 'unlistenable'? Sorry, but I think you are trolling. Neither of these acts are on my all-time favourite list, but that doesn't mean I don't like them..
