If the OP is #1 in the company he has nothing to worry about. I have no idea regarding the size of his organization but I highly doubt that any company is "watching" for the ping from a bunch of Ipads every day/hour. When a manager has reason to suspect an employee is not giving 100%, this is a resource to verify or nulify their thought.

I'd ask an IT guy at the company what is going on, or ask my boss(assuming a good relationship because I'm #1).

Leave it at home or stop taking as much personal time as you are - if you're that sensitive to the ability to "track" you, I'm guessing you realize you're taking more personal time than you should.

1. Hack into apple headquarter's server and plant a nasty virus so that all updates to any apple devices will render all apple devices unusable or make them all exploding to pieces.

2. Create a duplicate robot of yourself who will do all the job for you and let it have your ipad.

3. Do a brainstorm session with your company and convince them that ipad is hazarduous to human's health, i.e. causes anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, blindness, sore fingers and brain cancer.

It will soon be used in police investigation, you just wait and see. Your company will say the info is private, but they will buckle under pressure if the police approaches them. Then lawsuits will be filed and a judge will make an ambiguous ruling about obtaining permission beforehand but still carving out exceptions, but by that time the practice will be widespread.

This is a more efficient management control system. They probably used to randomly call the clients after appointment times to ensure that the salespersons actually went there, and arrived on time.

Where I work, every company vehicle was fitted with a tracker five years ago. It's there for two main reasons: one is safety as part of the lone-worker system, the other is for efficiency to dispatch nearby workers.

There was a lot of backlash when it came out, with people fearful of how it would be used. The majority of objectors were the ones who spent half their time in the greasy spoon. Which everyone knew about, so it was hardly a secret that would be uncovered by a tracking device.

In those five years, as far as I know there has only been one occasion where it has been used in a disciplinary case - and that was a guy who was going to be fired regardless, and the gathering of 'hard' evidence was just a formality. We have a similar policy with internet usage. That's also recorded, but would only be looked at if there were good reason.

No one even mentions the trackers now.
