Default just FYI - interesting match for DB

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/...inglesDraw.pdf

playing Saba from Duke in the opener down in FL - if he takes down Saba i'd be willing to pretty much agree with dad that ALL college coaches would be interested in him at this point - Saba is a fighter and won't be handing the match away just because it's an unimportant fall tourney - he doesn't like to lose, period

so we'll see - i'm definitely interested in the result - i'd put heavy money on Saba

found the score finally via FSU twitter
https://twitter.com/FSU_MTennis

Saba wins 6-3, 4-6, 6-1

similar scoreline to DB vs Redlicki at the zoo...DB puts a nice set together but not competitive in the 3rd

ronnie schneider with a nice straight sets win for USTA, not too surprising, he may go to war with Mengel also

Mike Redlicki going three sets with Lederman is rather interesting. Redlicki was hailed as the best possible recruit of the new season. Yonger Redlicki lost rather easily to a number 5 or 6 Cal player. Schneider, as usua, competes very well every match. Mengel beat him in tight two.

DB losing to Saba in three is just about right. Interesting that DB is beginning to be more included in the USTA events. I guess the tension between the parties is gone.

well, he won, and then "upset" 3 seed jomby...both matches he ran away with the third set 6-2...i don't know about "the best" - but one of the best i would go along with

all four duke guys in the main draw make the quarters - mengel and tahir winning all their sets, redlicki and saba showing they can win back to back third sets comfortably - i'll take it

Tenniscp will post video for u to look at, after 6 or 7 bad line calls ,being overruled 3x by ref and the having his own coach tell him to "knock it off" was pretty clear this kid went right to survival mode to deal with being pushed all around the court by the Jr, after a bad call early in the 3set you could see DB come off the pedal ,yes Saba won but what a pathetic lil girl he is and embarrassment for Duke tennis.

I rarely think line calls can effect a match but this was ridiculous !

kind of embarrassing to admit DB tanked the 3rd set - one might describe that as lil girl like!

The defensiveness and insecurity of the coach is coming thru loud and clear. For the sake of DB's future prospects and success, I hope he can start working with other coaches.

Then DB needs to cope better with bad line calls. Just another thing to learn in the Education of a Tennis Player.

I agree , he should have aimed everything at the middle of the court to overcome this position he was in , I spoke with him about how temperamental some of these college players can be such as Saba and that losing to a 16 yr old fair and square is out of the question for them.

He was raised to play fair so when he sees a kid that's at a D1 school like Duke I think he was expecting integrity but that wasn't to be found and his responce to it was immature .

#1 coach,
If you get a chance, watch this guy, Jerzey Janowicz, 6ft 8 playing in semi against Simon now on Tennis Channel ATP masters 1000 Paris indoor. Big serves, often over 200km/h but with great touch, disguised drop shots, all court play ...great athlete, great game in addition to his power.
He is 21, ATP ranked 60+, came into this Masters 1000 via qualifying and beat Andy Murray, Tipsarovic in prior rounds.
Maybe something you and DB can look at.

I've never seen him before but thinking this 6ft 8 guy is more athletic than Raonic, Isner, Querry, Del Pot. Take a look.

Murra beating Mengel, did not expect that. Murra was a mediocre ITF player from Mexico. 3 and 3 over Mengel is certainly an upset.

Saba overruled by the refs more than 3 times and nothing was done? Strange that Saba would dare to make so many bad calls in front of his coach and many other spectators! Usta people were there, other college coaches, kids and the spectators. Either he does not care and is really a bad seed, or I think that maybe the story is not very accurate. Would be interesting to hear the other side or a third party account.

You won't find integrity from a duke player. At least, not a male duke player. Mikej is typical of their temperament lately.

haha, not exactly

team is led by one of stan smith's sons - both of whom won sportsmanship award at the zoo during their junior career - that probably gives you a better idea of the way those guys compete than the way a former student posts on the internet

ps assistant coach stokke also won the award in 2002

don't be fooled by a blowhard dad who takes cheap shots at guys half his age every time his son fails to produce the goods

I agree but you can guarrentee that when most of the present team graduates they will have nice uniforms to wear when they are teaching lessons at their local park , they do have nice colors.

I like the "cheap shot " statement but I was very clear at telling Saba what a pus#%y he was and of course he did nothing , just like I expected. But to cheat on a court where you know you are safe and then have to man up when and old man says something to you and you just look at the ground every time he passed me just showed me whAt he was made of !

hmm, i know a lot of recent duke tennis grads on wall street and in law and med schools, not many teaching at local parks

confusing things with your son's future? or just lashing out since there are now two duke tennis players that own your son (redlicki / saba) and three if the younger redlicki joins the team in the near future?
