What's interesting to me is that despite the S3's remarkable processor and computing power, in every S3/i5 comparison review video I have watched, the i5 loads webpages faster than the S3 and sometimes by pretty large margins.

All that means is that the iphone is newer than the Samsung.

High end phones basically leap-frog each other.

The thing about the Android world is that its got a host of affordable alternatives to the high end models.

Its a better deal for those who don't have corporations paying their phone bills.

Many people on this thread are not paying their own phone bill, but the reality is that these phones are expensive and not particularly useful purchases.

I think you admitted using the phone mostly to look at tennis matches, so you can do what you like but its not exactly what a corporation might pay for.

A lot of cell phone usage is discretionary and engaged in by people who could put their money to better use.

This time of year, I don't watch tennis but lots of college football. I do not talk on the phone much. As much as I type, I'm not really a talker.

I pay my own phone bill and it is laughable for anyone on a tennis gear forum to give financial advice. You dont know anything about us or our careers, and went for a mass generalization instead.

Not offering any kind of advice.

Making a judgement based on empirical evidence.

Cells have gone from being work equipment to being play equipment and there is high useage and high bills among those who really can't afford them.

This has been well documented as has the high consumer complaint levels due to bill shock occasioned by deceptive marketing.

This part is true, unfortunately. Cynics would say that "deceptive marketing" is a redundant phrase, and perhaps it is those cynics who are being hired by Verizon, TMobile, AT&T and the lot.

It's quite disgraceful that they have such a low opinion of the intelligence of their customer base. Anyone who reads the small print on their ads can tell that the truth is often different from what is claimed in the ad.

I got warned on Saturday that AT&T was going to slow down my internet as I was reaching 5 GB for the month. This was probably due to me watching most of the Florida game on my iPhone Saturday. I did notice the picture quality go down after I got that message. Luckily, it was the last day of the billing cycle.

So basically you're saying that the iPhone is for girls and kids, and the S3 is for men and grown ups?

I interpret this as the iPhone 5 is so easy to use, that even my 3 year old could use it back when he was 18 months old.

Android requires a college degree or higher to learn and a weekend bootcamp.

As evidence, I submit the process for rooting the current flagship HTC android phone.

Also, it is suggested to anyone who wants to improve their HTC, that going through this process is highly recommended to "remove bloatware, improve battery life and get the phone running smoother".

The i5 has no bloatware. It does not even have the carrier logo on the device. I absolutely love this and firmly believe it improves the resale value as well.

I will take the childlike device all day. This is really a personal thing as I am finding that people just look at phones differently. Mine is mainly used as my primary source of communication. For others it is more of a computer.

If your 3 year old is anything like my 2 year old, then the boot camp will only be required for you and I. She knows why too much about the Maemo O/S already. I'm pretty sure they'd do more now with Android than most of us

Yes, yes and yes. This could have been post #2 but the entertainment value of the thread may not have been nearly as valuable.

The first few times he used my laptop, he tried touching the screen. The mouse thing seemed pretty archaic to him but he is used to it now.

Phones do seem to be getting more complicated nowadays and there is something to be said for Apple's 'simple' user interface and the ease which your typical Apple user can access its functions in simplified form.

I read an interview with Jonathan Ive in Wired the other week following his new appointment at Apple where he talked about human interface concepts, streamlining the functionality either further with the iPhone 6 and making the UI even simpler for your typical Apple user.

It's a fascinating read and they even showed one of his initial designs for the iPhone 6 incorporating what he terms SHIC (Simplified Human Interface Concepts) which is what he reckons your typical Apple user wants. Link below.
