Question Gamma 5003 Upgrade question

I was wondering if a 5003(w 6pt mount) could be upgraded with a 6 PT SC Suspension Mount with Switch Action Clamp Base and if anyone has done it before.
What was the labor/expertise and issues(if any) involved in the upgrade.
One other question I had was if the crank is the same on the 5003 and 6004 gammas?
Any help would be appreciated.

not sure either way if it can be done... but I would think buying a 6004 turntable would be easier....

I am pretty sure the tensioners are the same between the two machines..

when you say turntable and what gamma describes as base.

http://www.gammasports.com/gamma.cfm?product=1110

Is that the same? I went to the Gamma site and those where listed as upgrades but it did not have any compatibility information with it

the turn tables are inter changeable between the 5003 and 6004. the problem is to buy the upgrade table, it is more cost efficient to just buy a new 6004

and the cranks are slightly different. the 6004 crank can switch sides for a lefty or righty. a 5003 crank is fixed, meaning you cannot switch the side of the crank handle.

I assume by default it would be righty. The reason I am asking is that I am trying to save some money now and at later point in time I would want to have an option to upgrade. If I can upgrade to the switch action clamps and SC mount at a later point in time and the only difference will be that the crank cannot switch sides, that would work.
Thank You for the help

you would be better off to sell the current machine, and then save up the difference. those machines hold there value well, and then you get new string clamps and a full warranty as well.

I actually did not consider this option but it is a good one. I currently do not own the machine yet but was looking into my options If I would get it.

Yeah, IMHO it's not really worth it to look at the upgrade path that way. You'd get more bang for your buck by buying a WISE tension head for that money... IMO.

If you were to look at upgrades, the best route is as mchjhn said, sell and buy the new one.

If you want certain features for a machine, then it is best to either wait till you can afford to get the proper machine with all those options, or look into used market, as with used every so often some decent machines do come along, but only thing is the waiting and looking for that right used one to come along. If you are into stringing for the long haul, I always suggested to get the most machine you can afford as the more features the easier and more enjoyable the job becomes.

Current value of a used 5003, $400-500. Price of a 6-PT SC Suspension Mounting System with Quick Action clamps, $939. Price of a new 6004 6-point, $1299. A used 6004 usually goes for $900, sometimes $600-700, but very rarely.

Did not know the price for the 6-PT SC Suspension Mounting System with Quick Action clamps, so definitely makes more sense to wait for a good used deal on a 6004 maybe even a neos 1000 or 1500. Whatever I can find, and the budget can afford

Thanks Copey. I've been busy the last year or so. Not much has changed around here.
