The trend seems to be that droughts , floods, storms and extreme events are occuring more frequently and we are beginning to see the need of a support act that can be of help when the s... hits the f..
I think the least a modern society can do is be functioning and show resilience when things go wrong, thats when character and ability should shine. Business wants and needs to know how to navigate in the new era where weather is increasingly volatile and powerful. A good read on this is Larry Oxleys book : 'Extreme Weather and The Financial Markets' Here he is on Bloomberg Television progamme Taking Stock. http://www.bloomberg.com/video/oxley...W0AHtaS0w.html |

This seems to be only the beginning for the NE coast, this sucks. the data shows that this is to become a 'norm'
http://abcnews.go.com/ABC_Univision/...1#.UJGAx2dq2Ki Scary stuff. We need to get off this course by using smarter ways to keep our lives fun and healthy. |

Well, if you ever feel chilly inside, you just turn up the heater. Just imagine beautiful life without a fridge, ice-maker, or AC. You just step out into the unheated guest greeting area.

As a prepper, I'm doing fine. My compound is "disaster" resistant.
I have my own power, satellite connections. Some neighbors tried to enter my land but a few warning shots scared them away. Moochers! My contracting companies stand to make millions. Disasters are great money making opportunities. Government waste will allow my company to take millions while not have to build anything in return.

MANY people have died from this, millions of people are without power, so many people are still suffering.....and there you are with nothing to add other than your never-ending inept, heavy-handed trolling.

The best disaster relief is working together with neighbors. You help them, they help you. Just my experience.

I don't heard much "tender feelings towards" those people. The milions of people without power are still living better than the majority of people on this planet. Let's have some sense of the big picture shall we? I live on the island, this is not unbearable hardship. Is the US so weak now, that we need to feel sorry to people who can't charge the iphone5? this is a yearly "event" in this part of the world, in a country, completely unable to deal with it. this is a fact of life NOT a "once in a 100 year event". http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-18622569

A professionally-run FEMA was also indispensable.

That people are suffering elsewhere diminishes the suffering people are experiencing here and renders them worthy of mockery? Whether it's the many people here whose lives have been uprooted, or the many people whose lives have been destroyed or the many people whose lives have been lost, for you to crudely lampoon a disaster that carried tragic impacts with it and then in the same breath attempt to lay claim to "big picture" high moral ground is patently absurd. Here's the "big picture" big boy: you have openly mocked people because they didn't fit your arbitrary definition of suffering or (more to the point) because they could serve as pawns for your 'political' agendas dispatched in the rudely sarcastic and disrespectfully snide manner which is your stock in trade. Here in the other 'Sandy-related' thread ("Who's ready for Sandy?"), YOUR POSTS: Quote:

As to "tender feelings towards" those other people, well maybe if you joined the many of "us in the U.S." who donate to world-wide-directed relief organizations, you'd know more about those "tender feelings towards" other people whose "put your money where your mouth is" existance you cynically (and conveniently) ignore. FYI, Mr. "big picture," the U.S. has provided billions in food and development to Bangladesh. Food aid under Title I, II and III of PL-480 (congressional food/peace legislation) has been designed to help Bangladesh meet minimum food requirements, promote food production, etc. Finger-pointing cynics such as yourself might want to check out *and donate to* assistance agencies such as USAID, Zakat Foundation of America (ZF), etc. But let's get back to YOU. Here, as recently as yesterday in that same Sandy-related thread, YOUR contribution: vvv Quote:
THIS is really what you and your "big picture" is all about...in your own words. Additionally, about the (US) Navy fleet that you've also lampooned in your other 'Sandy' posts? Well my 'big picture' friend, you'll also be saddened (no doubt) to note that when Cyclone Sidr hit Bangladesh in '07, U.S. troops and U.S. naval vessals were immediately dispatched to assist in delivery of relief supplies to the cyclone victims. Sufferin'?....Not "Here" Boss! -- Breezy Point, Queens, New York City: ![]() ![]() You focus on the iPhone5 or whatever that woman's holding; I'll focus on the 'non-suffering' "grim & sadness" : ![]() I'm glad you've not experienced 'unbearable' suffering in that cultural wasteland of LawnGAH "I"-land, but the "big picture" isn't just about you...

I got heat and hot water back today.
I plan to take hot baths and walk around my heated flat in a bathrobe all night until tomorrow the next storm hits and everything gets shut off again and I die of hypothermia, cold, flu, cholera, and malnourishment.

The US is all about self-reliance. If we help them once, we'll have to help them forever. Feed a starving man once and you'll keep on feeding him forever. Let the man die but teach his children how their father was weak and deserved to die and you'll save those kids. Those kids will grow up rich and they will pass on their life's lessons to their kids. We rich people should set an example to the middle class and the poor. Show them how they are inferior to us, that they can improve. We can strenghten them by having them pay more taxes so that the increase strain will make them even better. It is like a coach demanding his players to sprint uphill. the steeper the climb the stronger the quads. It is our sacred duty to do nothing but make sure that they pay more taxes to make them stronger.

This is God punishing the North East for voting for Obama. Sandy was God's way to stopping voter turn out. Failing that, God is now punishing them.
