I have a Nexus 7 that I use to develop work applications - since we are too cheap to buy iPhones for our workers, so they get Androids (unless you're an executive, then you get an iPhone).

Have mini on order but I'm thinking why am I spending so much money on the mini when I can just use this $250 Nexus like my iPad? So I tried.

On paper it's got all the right specs. The major apps are all there. Why not?

Just like Apple used to say, the i<stuff> "just works". 70% of the Nexus is a struggle:

* Mail is fine. No issues there. Except that you get a gMail app and a mail app. Spent a while trying to add my imap mail to the google mail app before I realized there was an other app for email. Got that now.

* Web browser (chrome) is OK. But text is not much better than the mini (a little). Still need to expand it to read. What's really missing is the READER feature of Safari. Works brilliantly to give you nice readable web page on the mini.

* Tried to watch a movie off my DLNA server. First go off to the Play store. Download and install the highest rated app or two. Klunky interface but finds my server. Try to play. No video player embedded in the DLNA app. Huh? Need to use a separate add on video player. Download one. Works crappy. Plays one type but not the other. Download another one. Plays both but has all kind of weird screens before and after playing. Oh yeah, neither seems to remember where I stopped off if I stop a movie mid way. No 30 second forward or skip buttons. Download a few more video players. Ugh. Finally have one that sees to work.

Whoops, accidentally got into screen shot mode on this player. Takes a picture. Pops up again. Hit cancel, takes another picture. Stuck in loop. Reboot. Now have about 10 screenshots in some folder somewhere. Have to go download a file app to find the pictures and delete them.

Now I'm using the tablet in portrait. Every time I play a video it spins over to landscape mode. Have to turn tablet. Stop playing. Goes back to portrait, turn back. No way to stop it from turning sideways.

Figure, let's just use the ABC app and watch it there. Nothing in the play store from ABC networks. Lots of kid games and apps from local affiliates. Give up on that.

I could go on...

Now I know some of this is just finding the good apps. I also know that your common apps like Groupon, maps, Angry birds are going to be OK. But it's still the wild west out there on a Nexus.

***It's designed by engineers and that's exactly how it behaves.****

It's gotten better over the years. Android 4.x is usable. But it still is a hassle.

Back to the iPad with great relief. Blood pressure down. Extra $100, not feeling so bad about that...
wait a minute, who is this?

Whoever it is, he's a bit clueless, because he doesn't realise that there's a solution for all the moans that he's posted about.

For example with the rotation point, there's a rotation toggle from the notifications drop down bar. There are also rotation apps, and adjustments in the multiple video players which allow you to adjust rotation behaviours ad infinitum.

http://www.howtogeek.com/120056/how-...s-home-screen/

God forbid if he's 'developing work applications' but can't figure out solutions to simple issues, or even Google for a solution.

Cool story bro.

He has an iPhone, he likes it, he's sharing his experience including inconvenient things and firsthand experience with other phones.

You like your android and are sharing your experience.

You're trying to make an objective point about a subjective topic. Let it be.

Back on topic....I had plenty of time to kill today so I went to the mall and messed around with a ton of phones. The iPhone 5 and S3 are long phones and feel really cheap in your hand (especially the S3).

They were really fun to play around with. The i5s display is really beautiful. It really jumps out at you.

On fron page of yahoo finance...tech group .........

(Reuters) - Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S3 became the world's best-selling smartphone model last quarter, pushing aside Apple Inc's iPhone, which has dominated the chart for more than two years, research firm Strategy Analytics said on Thursday.
Strategy Analytics estimated Samsung sold 18 million S3 models in the third quarter, compared with iPhone 4S sales of 16.2 million.
Strong sales of the flagship Galaxy S3 - which comes with a large 4.8 inch touchscreen - helped Samsung post a record $7.3 billion operating profit in the July-September quarter.
"Samsung's Galaxy S3 has proven wildly popular with consumers and operators across North America, Europe and Asia," said analyst Neil Mawston, adding the new iPhone 5 would likely reclaim the top spot for Apple in the current quarter. (Reporting by Tarmo Virki; Editing by David Holmes)

There's no point to your post. The S3 sells at a lower price so its not surprising that it sells a higher number of units. Apple has a market cap of c£630bn. How does Samsung compare? Have you had too sun on your head again?

I've got my heart set on ditching my Galaxy Note for a Google (LG) Nexus 4. I hate the Samsung bloatware that comes with the Note but I'm not a guy to root, mod or jailbreak my gadgets. I might have plumped for an iPhone if the screen was at least 4.5 inches.

Was there extra bloatware stuff on the Note vs. the S3?

I haven't owned an S3, but my Note came pre-loaded with all the proprietary Samsung bloatware, not to mention my carrier's (Vodafone Aust) bloatware baked into the phone as well. I could've removed it I guess but as I said, I'm not fussed about rooting my devices.

I apologize if this has been discussed previously, I have not gone back through all 50 pages of this thread, but has anyone here owned a Samsung galaxy Note 2? Did you find it too bulky to hold it up to your ear, or did you like it? Thanks for any advice.

Thank you for acknowledging what I have been saying for pages. Bloatware is unacceptable and slows down devices. Rooting is a PITA and is considered the solution to everything among Android users.

I have never jailbroken any of my apple devices. There is no need to do it.

Market Capitalization is a fleeting figure. Shouldn't base too much on it...

I've never rooted my s3 and I don't plan on doing it, Ive never jail broken my iphone when I had it. The s3 does come with stuff I'd rarely ever use like at@t specific apps but it doesn't really bother me, I hardly know its even there, they just sit in the app drawer.

Exactly...

some biased posters try to emphasize so called 'bloatware', when it usually makes little difference to the average user...

A simple search hat took less than 1 minute reveals stuff like this all the time:

Even with the apps that came preinstalled on my s3, none of them negatively effected performance or battery life. Actually most of the apps are actually useful like the my at@t where I can check usage, make payments among other ones. It would have been nice if some of these apps came preinstalled on my old iPhone when I had it.
