I highly doubt it was on purpose. Especially considering how often he was #1.
And btw can anyone confirm that the #1 has to sit there?

Here is the video btw:

I wonder what would the reaction be if it was the opposite. A total disrespecs and Federer, AGAIN, showing his real face...
You're delusional and full of hate. Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...pnS_emM#t=254s

You think why the girl who was holding Federer's hand on his way to the chair let him go next to the one on the umpire's left - because Federer asked her to? Man, some people need to get a life..

It would make sense if it was 2008. Federer lost's his top ranking in 2008, regained it in 2009, lost it once more in 2010 and regained it in 2012. Why would he wait till the last match of 2012 to throw such a tantrum, huh, Sherlock? What was it for?

Roddick was easy prey for Roger. He could beat him with his eyes closed. Poor Andy! Roger prevented him from winning more slams. Each slam final he got to, he met Roger in the final! OUCH! Wimbledon 2005! Roger was on FIRE!. Rod could never then add to his lone USO! Very sad.

Was Benneteau ranked higher than Roddick at the time of the US Open?

Further on, Federer decided to be more humble in a different match:

Man this thread is utter fail if it's a diss at Federer. I have never heard of this "higher ranked player sits on the umpire's left" rule btw.

You realize that we are talking about the WTF and the "seating rule" that applies there.
You also realize that we are talking about the final against Djokovic, the opponent Federer does not like and the opponent that took away the #1 spot from him and the opponine that has been kicking his ***** the most lately.

How, do not get too emotional about your Swiss hero, but use your brain and add things up and it will become clear to you why the stuck up did it.

Yes, I do not like Federer, however, I fully acknowledge his great contribution to tennis and his game greatness.
Outside of the court, he is a totally different "contributor"

You do know that the WTF was known previously as the Tennis Masters Cup? Clearly in the second link Federer takes the seat on the umpire's right.

Federer is arrogant and dislikes Djoker to the core.

that's why he did it on purpose.

If Djoker had done the same mistake, TT would have been down by the amount of posts by Fed fans complaining about Djoker and his cheap behavior to grab attention!

I assume the USATODAY (first post) just came up with the story to blast Federer and to make "their favorite" Djokovic look better?

I don't know what the "rule" is, however, they say it is "traditional" which equals RESPECT. Taditionally, you let the "ladies first", but there is no written rule -- it is pure respect. I assume that logic does not apply in your village...

Additionally, DJOKOVIC towel was on the left seat which should be a clear indicator.

Some would care, some (arogant) would not give a crap...

Again, can anyone confirm this habit?
Up to this thread, I have never heard of that. Although it is of course funny that he uses the seat with the "Novak Djokovic"-Towels. Did he use those too?

Nice try ("I assume that logic does not apply in your village" - HILARIOUS) but you still haven't answered my question. Why did Federer take the chair on the right in the Fed-Ferrer match at the 2007 Tennis Masters Cup? There are a few possible answers:

1) Nobody gives a crap about which seats to take, you take the one you like.
2) The rule (which no-one has confirmed so far - I myself have been following tennis for years now yet I've never heard of this) that the higher ranked player has to seat on the left was introduced after 2007. If this was true, it could somehow explain Federer's behavior as he was used to sitting "wherever he wanted to" for years.
3) He took the wrong seat but didn't notice it, not that it mattered.
4) He took the wrong seat because he's humble and wanted Ferrer to feel better.

If Novak was a real man he would have taken his chair back.

Why react to Roger? Best to ignore it and say I don't care, I will beat you anyway!

I did answer your question, the problem is that you need tome to comprehend the answer...

I said -- I DO NOT know what the rule is and why someone else sat where they did. Maybe it is a "new tradition"?
However, a reputable source, like USA TODAY, has released the story, not me, not the OP.
Maybe it is the London tradition?

Nevertheless, the article claims it to be the tradition, clearly Novak's towel, visible to everyone, was there, right in Federer's face.

Did he do it on purpose -- I cannot claim it a 100%, however, knowing and learning his behavior over the past years, I'd say -- Federer knew EXACTLY what he was doing.

Nadal kicked Federer'a *** even more in 2008 when he took the top spot from him yet these 2 are very respectful to each other (I wouldn't go as far as saying these 2 are friends but still respectful). Has Federer done the same to Nadal at the WTF? They played in 2010 and 2011, why couldn't Federer take his seat?

And in a best way -- let him have breaks in each of the sets, have a hope, and then SNATCH it -- it hurts more.
I bet you Fed had a bag of Lindt after the match to calm down...
