Nadal will win something next year, it just won't be anything compared to this year. It will be a slow decline.

Nadal only needs Djokovic to get injured to get a good chance to get back to #1. Never say never.

LOL, Nadal is not ending next year at number 20. Nadal could come back in a wheelchair and he would not end the year at number 20. Have you seen the field in men's tennis? Most of the players can't win consistently to save their lives.

I think that Nadal could very well come back and pass up Djokovic, Federer, and Murray, even if all three of those guys are playing well during 2013-2014. He may not do it, but I do not think him regaining the top spot is a very remote possibility. He's that good and though he may have lost a bit of explosiveness in his movement about the court, Nadal has become a much more complete player over the years. He's smarter and more efficient. Just look at how he has adjusted his game at Wimbledon for example, having improved his net play and becoming a better returner, moving in closer to the baseline, etc. His serve has improved as well. He's now a smarter, better player overall than he was in his early 20's. So, once he comes back, he's going to be in the mix almost certainly in my opinion. I could be wrong of course, but I'd be surprised if he returns and basically flames out or even stays at #3 or #4. Of course he may not return to #1, but to say he DEFINITELY will not regain the top spot is more problematic than to say he has a good shot at regaining the top spot. If you asked Murray, Federer, or Djokovic if they would count Nadal out, it would be a unanimous no.

You owe me $100 when that scenario doesn't play out. I owe you $100 if it does.

Done deal.

If he only gets to the semifinals of Roland Garros and wins a Master without doing anything else, he will end the year ranked at #20. I doubt he will be doing that much to start with, so him ending 2013 at #20 is very plausible.

No. I don't make bets online. Especially because it might not happen in my favor, we can't predict the future. It's just speculation.

Why would Nadal quit on a season if he was not injured? Getting back to maximum abilities is a process; he surely understands that.

Because he doesn't care for tennis as much anymore. He has seen the life he can have without playing and he will work the bare minimum he needs in order to keep his name up there on the rankings. He doesn't care for tennis, he isn't even playing for himself anymore.

Sure, but he's #4 having played just half the 2012 season. It's insane to think he'll drop down to #20 just 1 year later, particularly when he is likely to play the whole season in 2013. Even if he just plays the Clay Season, he will still comfortably be in the top 10, even if he doesn't win RG.

What happened to that "protected" ranking system you could use when you're injured?

I just don't see him playing the full season next year, he's had too much fun off the tour this year to really be taken seriously anymore (in my opinion). He hasn't been injured for a while. The guy is the clay GOAT, but he's slacking off a little.

Federer is praying for it no doubt about that. If Nadal doesn't retire soon, Federer will end up with a 2-13 record vs Nadal at the slams. 2-8 so far, including 5 in a row, and only 2 of those 5 have been at Roland Garros.

Are you sure about that? I would have bet NSKzilla was a lefty--or acting like one, anyway.
