So we all remember Baghdatis' fantastic 2006 AO run where he lost to Fed in a 4 set final, after beating some stiff competition along the way.
However I totally forgot about his run the year before. Opposed to being unseeded, like in 2006, Marcos had to qualify. In the first round he beat fellow qualifier Federico Luzzi in 5 sets. In the second round he beat #22 seed Ivan Ljubicic in 4. In the third round he beat #13 seed Tommy Robredo in straight sets. Then in the 4th round he was beaten in straights by Roger, though the third set reached a TB. Marcos is the epitome of a flash in the pan. His 2006 season was excellent, but since 2006 Wimbledon he has played 21 slams and advanced to the 4th round only three times and a single quarter final (07 Wimbledon). His 2012 highlights are limited to smashing 4 rackets in a row. What is Marcos' ceiling for 2013? Top 20? He is ranked 33 now and 27 years old. |
