I am also surprised Kafelnikov made more than Hewitt. Hewitt had a greater career and is clearly the better player.

Kafelnikov was known for chasing the money, so I'm not at all surprised. He played as much as he felt as he could, in singles and doubles, big and small tournaments. It wasn't until 2002 that he started to burn out, so pretty good going after such long and hard schedules since 1993 or so.

I think Kafelnikov also often came close or held the "most matches played in a season" record - usually that's a record for a #1 player who wins everything (and so plays a lot of matches), but Kafelnikov got it by just playing lots of extra tournaments that didn't help his ranking.

I expect another ball at Berdych's body from Almagro.. this time he won't miss the head and he won't say sorry.

If I were Berdych I would not try any dropshot, especially on Almagro's forehand

I simply dont get what is wrong with all the people on this forum. Everyone's complaining that tennis has no personality and that all the players say all the "politically correct" things. So what's wrong with what Berdych said?? He just stated what has been obvious this year. Berd has owned Almagro and yes Almagro is the weak link in the Spanish team. What's wrong with that??!!!
Such hypocritical behaviour by some of the people here. Seriously, stick to one thing.

I didn't mind it from an "injecting personality in the sport" perspective, but I still thought it was a stupid thing to say that has the potential to blow up in his face.

That's the best part of it

I'm sick of all those top-players telling each other how great they are at every interview, every tournament. It's all so sensitive. All it takes these days for a player to be the new 'bad boy' of tennis is to say that you're absolutely sure you're going to win the next match. The arrogance! No respect! What will happen when he loses?

Making fun of Almagro is NOTHING. How about making fun of Fed? Here are a couple of lines I'd suggest Berdie to say, "Roger who? Ahh, they guy sitting in the oldie retirement rocking chair. Well, bring him on. I beat the hell out of him the last few times we played, let's see, Wimby and USO. I'll kick his b***tts all over again..."
Go Berdie, Go Berdie, Go Berdie.
Heh, I'd be happy to be the messenger to bring the clip to Fed when Berdie says it. Hehe...

Reminds me of Davydenko's famous reply to a journalist on this subject:

"I am Russian. All Russians love money!"

I thought Spain would win the doubles match with Granollers and Lopez having just won the WTF. Oh well.

Does that make his statements any less correct?

He still beat Almagro, so did old man Stepanek. Ferrer’s comfortable wins only strengthen the view that Almagro was the weak link and the Spanish doubles team recent triumphs did not guarantee them any success here which was evident in their loss.

Wonder if Berdych will ever display that "little something" that makes him "great"

Check out his friend girl )

Maybe Correjta should have used Lopez or Verdasco over Almagro. Both came up HUGE in the Argentina final a few years ago in Argentina on an indoor surface.

Yeah, well.. bummer for Corretja that Lopez has done NOTHING since like the whole season basically. Verdasco isn't exactly mr. reliable himself.

Verdasco might have pulled something together. I was honestly a bit surprised at the decision to play Almagro... Verdasco, in my mind, is a much better hardcourt player.
