Which machine? Baiardo - Star 4 - Star 5

Which would you buy if money were no object?

P1 uses Star 4... that speaks volumes.

Baiardo = ergonomics/gentle on your back!

What are average used prices for each?

Any good resources for used machines besides here on TT forum?

If I were in the market for a stringing machine, I wouldn't be buying a used Star 4. Yes, we use it, and its a great machine for our purposes. However, its no longer being supported by Babolat, so parts are no longer available. If you buy a Star 4, and the circuit board goes down, you are left with a very large paper weight. Our needs are very different than the needs of most stringers. We need a machine that is portable, and the Star 4 is one of the few high quality machines that fit the bill. We've been using them since 1998, and they've rarely let us down. We'll be using them (hopefully) for at least a couple more years, but we will have to move onto something else eventually. We've picked up a couple of Star 4's in the past few years as backups, but wouldn't have bought them if we found a currently produced machine that we thought fit our needs as well as the Star 4.

For stringers who don't need portability, and this the vast majority of you, machines currently produced are superior due to ergonomics and some added features that make life easier for a stringer.

RJYU, quick question do you know if the new Alpha Ghost base comes off or not? That way it can be used as a table top machine. If you have had a chance to see it what do you think of it?

the machine is detachable from the base/stand. you can see the rubber feet at the bottom of the machine that allow it to be used as a table top machine in the photo.

I don't know anything about that machine. I usually keep my interest in machines to only a few companies. That is due to the fact that whatever machine we eventually go to needs to have quick support worldwide.

Bit of the subject, but that Alpha has the same rails, Clamp bases & clamps as the Prince 6000, while the posts & arms and Stand also seem to be Prince 6000 based; and the console is similar to the Baiardo

Yes I have seen those and wondered if they were supports for table top operation.

yeah, they are rubber feet for table top to prevent marring.

I must say if I were looking for a new machine the Ghost would have to be in the mix.

I really enjoy working with the Prince 5000.
Love the mounting system ( I do a lot of racquetball and 6pt doesn't cut it), the brake, and the clamps.
It also has feet to go tabletop.
The Ghost looks really cool for the price.
