AO Open start the season, a lot of ilusions and very very good place. Top matchs Djockovic-Federer, Nadal-Verdasco, etc
Indian and Miami are my favourite too, because are good surfaces and we can see very good matches. Remember that incredible two matchs Cañas-Federer, and Nadal-Blake, ... |

wimbledon
some of the early memories get a bit confused but i remember seeing some of the 1977 wimledon final on tv when i was five, definately remember virginia wade winning the womens singles and also some bloke with a funny name (borg) which i kept shouting out BORGBORGBORGBORG and the other bloke with a bowl cut hairdo like i had, (connors). |

Wimbledon by far. I suppose it may have more meaning to Brits or countries who have HM Elizabeth as their queen..all that pomp and ceremony and tradition and whites only and strawberries and cream ..and it gets dark and the players can't see what they're doing and it's on TV for 2 weeks for 10 hours a day. And if you win you get to belong to an exclusive British club.
What's not to love about Wimbledon? |

Not including the grand slams I would have to say Cincy and Indian Wells.
All the top players play and it's always a good show. |

Cincy because of the speed. Wimbledon because of the tradition - would be far and away my favourite if the grass was fast as it used to be. WTF for the indoor conditions - hope they don't keep slowing it down more and more - it's much more fun to see a fast low-bouncing court (I loved the court the Czechs chose for DC finals).

Indian Wells, Miami, and Cincy (Masters events, hard court, in the USA, and matches are best two out of three sets).

Wimbledon for me, it's the lone grass major, and just looks bad ***** and fundamental to tennis history

Australian Open.
It is the slam that has got it all. Day matches. Night matches (scheduled). Outdoor matches. Indoor matches (when the weather permits it). Tiebreak sets and sets to advantage. No silly middle Sundays off (honestly get with the times). Has no tradition to rely on so it constantly has to reinvent itself. Richest prize money. Will have 3 retractable roofs. Will have the best facilties in the world. First slam of the year so it sets the scene. Record crowds every year. Also, it is the one slam that doesn't get owned. It is nobody's *****. Wimbledon: ***** to Borg, Sampras, Federer and Navratilova. Wimbledon would have to be the most predictable ho hum event of all time (Nadal at the FO aside. But once Nadal retires I expect the FO to be competitive again). FO: Borg's and Nadal's *****. USO: Federer's and Sampras' *****. So it is the least predictable of the slams which is a massive plus. The timing of the event may have something to do with it. If they sped up the court and made it a neutral surface, with true bounce and true speed, really, it would be the ultimate tournament. AO for spectators is awesome. As a resident of Melbourne I go every year. The atmosphere at the night sessions, be it in the stadium or out on the grounds, is something only the New Yorkers could appreciate. Plus the babes, you gotta see the babes. Awesome.

French Open got what no other tournament has -- night matches that are played in darkness -- no light allowed.
