Default Lendl: "I have big plans for Andy. He is about 20% there."

If you want to read the story - go for it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/20363282

Alternatively here's the direct quotes coming out of the GOAT mouth of Ivan Lendl..

Quote:
As long as it works for both of us, I can see myself being with him for the rest of his career. I have a lot of plans where I would like to see Andy end up with his game.

I think [he can achieve] a lot more. I'm not going to say number of Grand Slams, I'm just going to say where Andy is now, I take 'point A' - when we started working - now he's at 'point B', and when I envisage I would say he's about 20% there.

I think that [if Andy's career will be judged on whether he wins Wimbledon] is an inappropriate question because I think everybody knows he can, The question is 'is he going to win Wimbledon?' and know he will give it a good crack many, many times - not just once, not just in 2013 or 2014.

He has quite a few years left in him and he's going to give it a crack.

As you know in sport, you cannot predict, you can only anticipate - both Andy and I would be disappointed if at the end of the day he does not win [Wimbledon], But it's also a possibility that he may win more than one, and he may not win any.
I don't know, I don't know the answer to that, but he can.

So Ivan Lendl in 1 year has taken Murray to what he assesses as 'Point A' (2011: F,SF,SF,SF, #4 x 4) to 'Point B' (first slam won, 2 slam finals, gold and silver medal, tweaked motion forehand, #3).

Ivan Lendl seems a careful pragmatist in his closing remarks.

But one wonders, is 'Point E' winning the French Open and Monte Carlo?

Well, they've got Andy Murray which is a start.

Plus a more than decent doubles team Hutchins/Flemming, all they need is another half decent singles player to appear from the sky and maybe in Murray's late career he might be able to win Davis Cup with the help of a overly-keen 20-year old something. Murray's predessor. Could be a sort of Deja Vu of this moment

Murray does have the ability to win Wimbledon and Australian Open titles and become world no. 1 at some point in his career.

Obviously becoming the first British player in about 634 years to win Wimbledon is the ultimate goal.

In Murray & Lendl, you couldn't have found a more Wimbledon-loving pair if you looked for one.

quite a few years left in him yes... if he changes his run every point down golden retriever style of play,

if not then that style of play and his dodgy back may cause big problems.

1 slam = 20%. Makes sense. The other 80% is when Murray wins AO, RG, Wimbledon and WTF I suppose. Ambitious guy this Lendl

If Nadal does not come back to his old level, and Fed continues to age, who do you think will win all the Slams for the next few years? Djokovic and Murray. It makes perfect sense for Lendl to latch on to him.

Djokovic will start to decline after an year or two, too. He is 25.5, not 23 anymore.

Djokovic's back and hip are actually worse than Murray's.

Murray's career seems to be following a different trajectory. That said, I'm guessing 2013 will be Murray's peak and he'll start declining after 2014.

So? And Nadal is only a year older than them but is finished. It's about mileage, not actual age.
