We generally start by doing mostly fitness and not a lot of tennis, and it really includes everything(weights, cardio, speed/agility, core strength/stability, and injury prevention exercises. It varies depending on what each player needs individually, and on what part of the training period we are in, but generally we will have at least one or two 1.5-2.5 hour sessions (more if its an 80k road bike)

As far as other sports, we usually play soccer, maybe once every week or two. Its very intense, as we are all extremely serious about winning these games
Thank you for your answer!

Could you be more specific, what those injury prevention exercises are?

Cool

Thanks for all your updates from your various events, Filip! Just curious, do you carry a laptop or a tablet with you on the road and which one? Have you had problems anywhere getting wifi?

Maybe your business manager can hook you up with an endorsement in the future! You certainly have proof with these threads of how vital and useful your link to the world is when traveling.

Not really, we know what is weaker just through the training we do, and work to fix/balance it.

I always have a laptop with me, and recently got an iPad as a gift, so I might start travelling with that. I have trouble with WiFi a lot more than I would like, as many places have very bad signals or none at all. Quite a few places also make you pay for the networks they provide, sometimes reaching 15-20 dollars per day (needless to say I never buy it if it reaches that price)

It would be great to receive an endorsement in that regard, would help me tremendously.

It would be very difficult, nearly impossible to explain many of those exercises without physically demonstrating them. Most of them include rubber band/weight pulley machines for my shoulder, and core/back stability exercises.

Tough loss in the Finals today. You play okay, or?

But congrats on reaching the Final, and a new ATP high. Those draws were some of the deepest and toughest I've seen!

Thanks, it was a good week. To be honest I didn't really play well, but Lucas played a good match.

Do you ever find yourself overpowered by an opponent that literally murders the ball? How do you deal with those hard/flat hitters?

In your serve, what technical element do you consider to be the most important - what do you focus on (or maybe it is "automatic" so you do not think about the technique at all and concentrate on placement and what to do next)?

You said you knew him very well from juniors...how often did you play him and what was the record? I noticed he went pro soon after the AO juniors...do you think the extra few months on tour has matured his game? That's quite a run he had in Merida...more than a dozen consecutive wins for the two titles!

those two titles were Futures events...consecutive Challenger wins would put Lucas on a plateau with Klizan and/or Janowicz earlier this year.

Wow. Awesome to have a real player on this board and that too a slam winner. Congratulations on winning junior Wimbledon and US Open and reaching finals of Australian and French.

I have a few questions:
- In the slams, do you guys share the same dressing room/environment as the top players. Or is theirs a different world.

- How tough do you feel is to break the top 100 or top 50 at pro-level

- Is prize money enough to sustain all you expenses and coach. Does ITF tournaments pay for travel and hotel.

Thanks

do you think the gap between the top juniors and the top100 has become larger?

5-10 years ago we had 17yo kids like nadal or becker beating the top guys. usually by age 19 most top players were in the top50.

so it would usually take 1-2 years after the last jr. season to make the 100. but to date non of the 2010 to 2012 guys has made the top100 (the highest is sock around 150). and even if you extend to 09 there is only 1 junior winner making the top100 (tomic). that is 3 years and only 1 made it.

why are juniors taking so much longer to get to even borderline world class (top100)? is it because the competition is harder?

Davis Cup is coming back to your hometown for the second year in a row! Do you know whether you're going to be part of it? I would have to assume that it will still be Pospisil in as #2 singles, but will you be on the practice roster?

This is from an article on tsn.ca on Nov 20 about Davis Cup.

Martin Laurendeau:

Laurendeau feels the opportunity to play at home again with more experience under their sneakers will help make his players more competitive. In addition to core players Raonic, Pospisil and Nestor, the captain plans to deploy Filip Peliwo of North Vancouver, currently the world's top-ranked junior, somehow.

He clearly lacks the experience to go against the world's best on the sport's top level. But Laurendeau said it's important to include Peliwo, who trained with the squad last February in Vancouver and during the September win over South Africa in Montreal.

Great news. Way to go, filip.

TSN just put up a pretty comprehensive recap of Filip's 2012 season:
