Yes, he played great with the 85 Original, full gut.

Ferrer doesn't hit his ground strokes with nearly as much power as Federer does, yet he is able to beat bigger guys who hit with much more power, such as Del Potro and Berdych. It ain't the power!

Regardless of the size of his racquet, Federer will descend from now on. How many pros over the age of 32 have won Slams regardless of the size of their racquets?

Tennis is a game of the legs, not of the size of your racquet.

I sometimes wonder if those guys who start those threads ever played tennis.

It is a question of his rate of descent.

Quoted for truth.

Legs and sharpness win tennis, not square inches.

Sampras already retired by the time he was Federer's age. Even if Federer just remains on the tour, that's already an improvement in the rate of descent.

Actually, for goat considerations, all of your slams are valued in proportion to the sqare inches of your head, so federer's slams are worth more. He should go even smaller for the last 2 before he retires.

At 31 he was #1 and currently #2, I'd say that's a frozen state of descent.

Why does this thread have 3 stars beside it?

Fed has 2,265 more atp points than the guy below him. The young kids with big rackets in the top 20 are struggling to break 2000 atp points, and Fed has over 10,000. There's nothing wrong with Federer's performance.

Federer does shank balls. He shanks them because he takes so many ball early and on the rise. Plus the amount of spin that he and the other players put on the ball today makes it really difficult. It does not have to do with his racket. I bet if he stood as far back as Rafa he would not shank as many balls. Of course then he would play as well either. It is not his game style.

BTW it is interesting that the two guys with the most grandslam titles had 85 and 90 inch rackets.... That said I love my 90. I played with the prostaff 85 growing up and in college. The 90 reminds me of the rackets I grew up with. Although I probably find it easier to get pace on the ball with my 95. It just feels more sloppy and more like a hammer.

Bigger racquets didn't have exposure till recently. Then again, we can look at Rafa and Agassi. Very successful tweeners, and extremely powerful ones at that.

The majority of Federers errors on not on ball hit into the net, they are on balls hit long and some of those shot land two feet or more long. Yeah, give him 5 more square inches and he will hit the ball out by another 5 square feet.

People forget that Fed has twin girls and believe it or not instead of being a deadbeat Dad, he probably spends alot time with them which no doubt takes time away from his tennis. It may not seem like family could have an impact but that would depend on the individual.

Well if he is French then shouldn't he be using a Babolat racket?
