Assuming that this was the tried and tested formula of splitting the first two sets and actually playing the super-tiebreaker, then this result is extremely surprising. Considering that he seemed to actually miss a couple of easy rally balls early on (a few of his 'Oh my god's sounded legitimately horrified/stunned) he might have really wanted to make up for a very tepid start.

I disagree. It was kinda depressing watching it. They were talking about Roddick's shoulder is not the same anymore. Raonic was hitting 220 plus to entertain the crowd. Roddick was hitting 160-180 kph the whole match.

He just lost all his firepower.

well he is only retired like 2 months or so so he is basically still an active player. in a year or 2 he will likely play a little worse.
