thin 18g string knot pulling past the grommet hole

when I use my thin 18g string my knots get pulled through the hole slightly. This is an old racket so I can't get any new grommets. Is there something I can do to prevent this?

Use piece of tubing on the string that goes thru your tie off hole. That'll take up the void and keep the knot from pulling thru.

You can use a piece of helper string. Cute off apiece of string an inch long, put it directly over the grommet, then when you pull the knot, the piece of hlper string will sink into the grommet a little but it will basically fill in the open space in the grommet preventing the knot from sinking into the grommet.

I assume this is a starting knot?

If so, maybe try a starting clamp and/or bulkier knot.

i have not tried this but it should work. Use a VS starting knot but instead of using a single string to tie your knot use a loop.

You can place a piece of scrap string inside the first loop of your knot.

Seems like it would be similar I agree but when you tie the knot with the scrap string between the knot and the frame you are tying your knot on top the scrap string. When you take off the clamp you will have more drawback. If you use the VS starting knot and tighten the final loop you are pushing the tightened knot out and you will see less drawback. It will also make for a bulkier knot (maybe too bulky) as you will have a knot within a knot. It may even look like an ugly beehive. You may have someone refer it as a "beehive piece of sh**. I am not saying though this knot is used by anyone. Don't even know if it will work.

There is also a knot called a "Bulky Knot" and there is a video on Youtube describing how to tie it. It should not get pulled through the grommet.

That is in one of YULitle's videos it is called a Bulky (starting) Knot http://youtu.be/UT1cXy-6Wz0 but may not work if it is a tie off the OP is talking about. And by the same token the VS starting knot tied with a loop would not work well as a starting knot.

Being pulled through the grommet to the point where it is problematic leads me to believe it is most likely a starting knot, in which case a Bulky Knot is a good solution. If it is on a tie-off, the Bulky Knot will still easily work with any non-poly and should still be fine with his 18g if it is poly. This is my standard starting knot and, while I do apply tension, I can cinch it up by hand with all but the most gnarly strings.

If I'm not mistaken, this is also at very high tension.
The bulkier, the better, even if it's ugly.

Most of the repliers are jumping to conclusions regarding what is actually happening. The OP has yet to reply. He never said anything about a starting knot or what type of knot they are using.

BTW: Does anyone know if a Wilson Kfactor Blade Team use the same grommets as a BLX Blade Team?

Even though you cant get grommet sets you could use individual grommets.
