Default Capriati accused of stalking, sells condo for big loss to avoid police charges

http://gossipextra.com/2012/11/21/je...-florida-2034/

Quote:
It’s love, set and no match for ex-tennis star Jennifer Capriati!

The perennially troubled Capriati sold her fancy Singer Island condo at a steep loss and returned to her native Tampa area — after a former Florida State University golf star accused her of stalking him, Gossip Extra has learned.
The Resort at Singer Island

Jennifer Capriati just sold her crib at The Resort at Singer Island (Special to Gossip Extra)

The 36-year-old long-ago World No. 1 tennis player lost a whopping $600,000 on the sale of the 19th floor apartment with sweeping views of the coast, according to public records.

Capriati, who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in July, bought the 2,800-square-foot condo at The Resort at Singer Island in 2007 for $1.67 million.

She sold the condo, where she suffered a near fatal overdose of prescription meds in 2010, for $1.08 million!

– For SoFla’s best gossip in your inbox, click to register for the daily alerts

The deed shows Capriati now lives in Wesley Chapel near Tampa.

It was high time for her to hightail it outtahere: Records also show Capriati was the target of 10 — I counted — police complaints from an ex-boyfriend.

And that’s just for 2012!

Gate Crashing

The ex-boyfriend was identified as Ivan Brannan, 28, a former FSU golfer.

In August, Capriati allegedly sped through the guard gate of Brennan’s Singer Island condo building in her Porsche Cayenne after the guard refused to let her in.

She alleged blocked Brannan from leaving his car but left when he called police. Riviera cops caught up to her later and ordered her to stay off the property.

Brannan also accused Capriati of calling his work place, PGA Marina, over 100 times in a single day and questioning his co-workers about him.

None of the incidents led to an arrest.

Injunction

Brannan’s injunction to force Capriati to stay away from him was denied after the former tennis star sold her condo and left town.

Neither Brannan nor Capriati returned calls.

Capriati turned pro at 13 in 1990. Despite some big wins, Capriati never achieved her true potential. She was plagued by injuries and arrests for shoplifting and possession of marijuana in 1994.

Capriati denies stalking ex-boyfriend

Matt Cronin

Jennifer Capriati denies that she has been stalking her ex-boyfriend, former Florida State golfer Ivan Brannan. According to the South Florida publication Gossip Extra, Brannan claimed in court records that the former No. 1 called him “hundreds” of times at work and also attempted to crash the gate of his apartment complex.

Brannan filed 10 police complaints filed against Capriati this year, but she alleges that the police did not make any of the attempts at restraining orders official.

“He’s a real bad person, very dishonest,” Capriati told Gossip Extra. “One day I’m his girlfriend, the next we’re engaged and then it’s like I never existed. It took him eight months of our relationship to admit to me he had a child. Imagine that… I was just trying to talk to him because he wasn’t returning my calls. There’s no way police should’ve been called. I can’t believe I even have to discuss this! People like me are always the targets of men like him.”

Jenny Capricoti, passion a little too frothy-Ruthie sometimes...feels like my sister come-to-life, sometimes...I hope she finds what she found, in due-time...someone, like a little more responsible than, passionate, but stable like a rock, for u, not judging, but only looking for u to electrify, your being & be that stand-out thespian to combat his inner-boring.

Eternally, that 2o me...is what she needs to find, to leave those flashback to tremoring far-behind days, in the breezeway...not worth it. A little Latin blond hultry like JLo & Britney can get away with...but the rest who is ESFP woman, can be a little easy to take advantage of in this regard. Don't go allow yourself to go down feeling like Lemon Pine Sol, that broad in a jail cell...just because.

...day-break, daybreak...recurring electricity men will leave u feeling washed up like a fish named broad, examine their motives *for real,* in the early stages, before going find yourself some a little violin, raunchy fun, but for real.

Someone boring (can be handsome), but who makes you feel like a Porsche inside; without question, will do all the pushing, and when will, you're gliding (could be on a unicorn, without trying...

Passion, it ain't no crime. Boring men sometimes where parenthesis around their eyes. Be their antacedent, & watch the moon glow.

$igns ain't inherently bad, but snakes iz, like, u know? Of course u do, but being that life is always a struggle; you must be in good company. I wouldn't fret, if you can find love in a boring handsome man, who'd really value u from the start, to the end, "Ruby Red," Jenny Capricoti; well, I tried to make her happy & I look a little like Berry Bonds & Alf Martin, kinda-hybrid. Hmm...I have to study now, but it feels like it's harder than it should. I hope I'm wrong, and it's right. Gotta go to the bathroom now, and study. Try.

There I feel better, a veteran.

It seems wrong for the article to identify the victim and give him unnecessary attention.

Date a 28 year old guy who shockingly behaves just like a 28 year old guy. Who could have seen that coming?

Maybe she should try dating grown ups? Might be a better match since she is 36.

And what was this guy thinking getting involved with someone with her background?

I don't see any correlation between the condo sale and the restraining orders. One has nothing to do with the other. Unfortunately for her, she bought at the peak.

If she really called him at work 100 times, maybe he could have just taken her call once, let her have her say, and tell her that if she called him again, there will be consequences, restraining orders, etc.

Who knows what the truth is but she sounds a little nuts and given her history, there may be some drug involvement as well. Another tennis prodigy story that doesn't end so well? She seems like a mess.

Exactly. A restraining order isn't going to force her to sell. She could rent the thing out for 10 years until the market came back if she wanted to. Maybe she's still got money like that were $600k is no biggie?

Since it's now 'all the rage' to date a young guy, started by our own Demi Moore, dating someone older - even by a few years, is, especially where I live, considered "creepy".

So we have all these women, throwing themselves at boys, and are stunned to find he's just having fun, when these women truly believe they'll find 'forever' with someone 10-15, 20, years younger. Hey; Have fun, but when you're throwing your life away?

I have a client in her late 40's. Her son is 15. He gets asked out ALL the time, even walking home from school, by women in their 40's and 50's - and often right in front of his mom (she gets really bent when that happens).

I hear of stuff like this all the time where I live. Everywhere I go, the guy is almost always younger, the personal ads are all "I only date younger men..."

Just the way it is, now.

astonishing! I can't beleive her condo cost only a million dollars. If I had all that money , and was female I might add you would see me witha bunch of scantadlyclad maids running around my mansion. And I would be driving no porche neither.

I mean pot? Come on! I will go out with her, I will take care of the business. She will beg me on her hands and knees to never leave.

WE LOVE U JENNIFER

1. The first thing one should do is to tell the unrequited person that no further contact of any kind is allowed.

a. As early as possible, tell him/her that the relationship is over.

b. Be as firm/assertive and direct as possible.

c. Avoid using tones or phrases that could be misconstrued as implying a second chance or playing hard to get. Oftentimes, when the victim tries to "be nice" and to "spare the feelings" of the person being rejected, the unrequited lover sometimes perceives mixed messages.

d. Be respectful

2. Discipline yourself to avoid contact with the stalker: This includes ANY and ALL contact (calling to ask for someone else's phone number, counter-harassing, sending letters back) which could easily be misinterpreted by the stalker.

3. Documentation is one of the most important aspects of stalking threat management. For a copy of a documentation form, click on the following hyperlink to view the Logbook.

4. Several preventative measures have been listed at various websites (see Resource page)

5. Several interventions have also been listed at various websites (see Resource page)

A Behavioral Approach:

B. F. Skinner's laboratory experiments on operant conditioning lent understanding into the frequency of behaviors contingent on external reinforcement. In essence, if a particular behavior is rewarded, there is an increased chance that that behavior will be repeated. Conversely, if there is no reward, the behavior decreases in frequency or is extinguished.

Sometimes, when the reinforcement is provided intermittently (in a variable-ratio schedule), the behavior is more resistant to extinction. This is because one has learned that a reward could occur at any time and that persistence pays off. A good example of this situation is seen at the slot machines found in gambling casinos. The winnings occur randomly (intermittently) offering just enough reward to keep one pulling the lever for hours on end.

Consider the stalker. When the stalker calls the victim several times in one evening until the victim either "gives in" (e.g., tries to reason with the stalker) or offers the stalker some attention (an affective response, such as fear, anger, or shock), these responses serve as reinforcement for the stalking behavior.

Ending the behavior: Behaviors that are not reinforced tend to decrease or extinguish all together. But will this apply to stalking behaviors? There are examples in the literature suggesting that it can (Westrup, 199. Harassing phone calls (i.e., threatening calls, "hang-ups", etc.) are very common stalking behaviors and will serve as a good example. As noted above, any response to the caller can be reinforcing. Resisting the urge to reason with or respond affectively is difficult, but important. However, withholding such reinforcements produce what has been described as a behavioral "spike". In other words, much like the child who is ignored and responds with a louder tantrum, the stalker may "step up" his or her behaviors. This makes it difficult persevering against the unwanted onslaught of attentions.

Cautions: Before implementing any interventions, it is very important to have an experienced threat management team perform a risk assessment. Each stalking situation is different. It should be noted that sometimes, when a stalker is met with resistance, he or she may actually escalate the stalking behaviors.
