Default Signum Pro Plasma 1.18 can you string it at 65lbs without problems?

I keep running into posts about this string breaking during the stringing process. Some say it's a bad batch from the past but others say this string is prone to premature breakage.

Good polyester breaking during stringing? I would be surprised if it is because of the string... Either the stringer is nicking the string or there was a low quality batch of it!

I often string my rackets with 18g (as small as 1.10mm) in the high 70s and have not once had a decent polyester break prematurely.

Why are you stringing a 1.18 gauge string that tight?

Why the heck would you want a string that tight, much less a poly ?

I'm slowly going down in tension but my racket is bigger than a midplus so 65 isn't as high as it sounds. Even at 60ish I've heard of this string breaking during stringing.

Yeah. It's as high as it sounds. 65 lbs is 65 lbs. It won't make that much of a difference in feel unless you switch from a 15 gauge string down to an 18.

No. 65 lbs is Much too high for pp or any poly for that matter. Try it at 50 and you should be fine.

I heard SPPP pure (white) is more prone to breakage than the original (orange). I've only strung the original many times and had no problems thus far. Still, I feel uneasy about a poly tension higher than 60lb, let alone 65lb.

SPPP is known to break easily on miss hits and one of my hitting partners said he had it brake while stringing. As far as stringing poly at 65 lbs. that is not a big deal.

How many of the critics of this high tension have ever tried it? Depending on the racket and poly stringing that high is fine, you will have to change more often but it plays good.

I am using genesis black magic 17 gauge at 70 lbs. right now and it plays very good and has a great feel to it, poly at high tensions does not board out as bad as multis or syn. gut does.

My hitting partner uses lux bb ace at 70 lbs. in a blx 90 and it actually has a soft feel to it. I know most will question this and say it is crazy, but of coarse all these critics have never actually tried it but somehow know more about high tension than us players that use it.

I don't think the concern is how poly plays at high tensions (to each his own) but what it will do to your arm in the long run. However, if it doesn't bother you, it is fine. Just be on the lookout for symptoms.
Highest I've strung my SPPP is 58 lbs and I didn't notice much different in arm comfort from 53lbs.

I agree with what you are saying, it just seems there are so many who think that poly at higher tension is so uncomfortable and harsh that it is unplayable. Which is not true, some play very well and are still comfortable.

I don't think it's so much a matter of harshness, it just kinda stretches the life out of the string and many of the newer strings just seem to perform better at lower tensions.
I agree that BBAce at high tension would be better than say, Duralast16 @55.
Let us not forget that the OP is used to high tension Kevlar. (ouch).

Yeah, it varies for everyone. I strung kevlar in my ProStaff 85 at 62 lbs for about 15 years and never had a problem. Since I tore my elbow tendon (due to non-tennis factors) I now have to be really careful about what racket and strings I use.

Are you using a drop-weight machine, and if so are you starting with the weight down?

Using an old axis alpha crank machine. ITo me poly in the mains feels harsher than kevlar. Maybe kevlar in the first hour of hitting is really tight but afterwards it's quite soft imo.

A hitting partner of mine had the pro staff 85 with kevlar, that was the lowest powered set up that I have ever tried.

I used to string SPPP 1.18 @ 64lbs for over a year on a midsize frame. Never had a premature breakage, never broke on a mishit either.
Always broke near the sweetspot or a bit higher.
