Default Berdych Serve Slow Motion

One of the better looking serves on the tour in my opinion...

It is pretty good serve, but I'm still not a fan of the WTA-toss.

He gets a lot of leg drive into the shot, but perhaps not as extreme as Soderling.

With a lower toss, he may have won the 2012 USO.

The super-high toss (what I deem the WTA-toss) is a tradeoff. It gives you much more time to get balanced into position and to shift your body around under the toss but, counter-intuitively, the timing must be more precise because the ball is falling at a faster rate through the contact zone.

The other downsides of the high toss are that it is more susceptible to the wind and more difficult to place precisely because the higher the toss, the more difficult it is to toss precisely. Though, obviously, high-level players such as Berdych are very good at accurately tossing. He just has a more difficult task of tossing the ball than someone like Federer much less lower-toss players such as Roddick and Ivanisevic.

You may enjoy this comparisom between the serves of Berdych and Fed from Tennis Oxygen. (Even throws in a shorter comparison to Roddick.)

"WHICHEVER WORKS FOR YOU" !!!!!!
Those are the operative words.
Dolgopov, Tanner, and Goran almost hit the ball on the way UP, with super low tosses.
Dementieva tossed higher than the flagpoles.
It worked for them.
And the lag, if you get the racket up early, why wait? If you have the huge lag, you need some time to bring the racket up to trophy and then to swing, so you need a higher toss.
"WHICHEVER WORKS FOR YOU" !!!!
We are different.
