Cool

Russell and Leaf must vie as biggest QB busts ever. In JaMarcus' case, he should have been drafted by the Vikings...that way his codeine syrup (Purple Drank) would have matched his jersey.

Torretta? A seventh-round pick isn't a bust, just a small risk. Likewise, Marinovich (late first round) was not the risk level of Russell and Carr (both first overall) and Leaf (second behind Peyton). Carr did OK for an expansion team with a sieve of an "O" line. Also, NY must agree with him...he has a SB ring, even if it's earned as a back-up.

Lee, are you warm and dry? I noticed the Bay Area is suffering through some wet weather.

It's been on and off rain for 3 days, yes.
I"m inside my g/f's house, mostly on here but applying mud, sanding, and patching a wall in anticipation of primer and paint. One thing about mudding work, there are periods of waiting for the white stuff to dry.
Thanks.

Is it me? Or did it seem like everybody knew Russell was a bust except for the team that drafted him... same with Gabbert.

Carr did ok but as mentioned he got killed in his early yrs (one really BAD year) and once he got those happy feet he was done in Houston. Also had a lousy work ethic and became a real wuss (REALLY Lousy he was one of the guys that would be last in and first out and for a QB not good) as Kubiak gave him a full yr to prove himself before he made the trade for Schaub. Carr has had a 10+ yr career so far -

Russell and Leaf are at the top along with Marinovich........Al Davis had two huge busts under his watch.....

JeMarcus and Leaf are the two biggest busts ever but I think Akili Smith and Heath Shuler were both more of busts than marinovich was.

Can't mention Smith without also calling out the Browns for taking Tim Couch with the overall #1 in the same draft.

Still, a consistent OL that can protect the QB for 3.5 seconds seems key to a successfull team and QB. Look at what Brees is going thru since the 2nd quarter of the 49'ers game last week. He's been harrassed and knocked down on almost every single pass attempt, and his efficientcy rating has gone down the tubes. Upright, I think he's the premier passer in the league, bar none. His deep timing passes are the best for sure.
Most top draft pick QB's go to teams in need of OL and overall personel, which is why they got the high draft pick. Bad teams don't get suddenly better with just one good QB, although lots of you would point to Indianapolis and Luck. I see better protection than last year there.

Couch wasnt good but wasnt a complete bust like alot of guys. He actually played decent for a couple years when you consider how bad the talent around him was. Shuler and Akili never did anything.

Brady and Rodgers are the top 2 QBs in the league IMO and then Brees is in that next group of QBs.

Rodgers has sucked big time as of late, as his OL cannot keep two guys from hitting him before he has a chance to decide where to throw.
Brady is unreal.
Brees, to me, at barely if 6' tall, is the premier QB in the game, when he's up on two wheels. Knock him down early and often, he get's derailed.
While Luck does get some help, he get's no help compared to the 3 you mentioned. It's a question of ....will he stay good while his team improves, or will his body break down as the team is improving...

Dont get me wrong, Brees is good but he gets to throw in the dome for over half his games where Brady and Rodgers have to do it in tough weather and they still dominate. I would take those 2 over Brees anyday.

Brees isn't in that group with them? The guy just broke the record for yards in a season, didn't he?

Like I said earlier, he gets to play over half his games inside the dome so he has ideal conditions to pass in. Passing yardage records in todays NFL will probably be broken every year. 5,000 yd seasons arent even news worthy anymore.

Unhappy

On a more somber note, the Chiefs' already disastrous season has now turned tragic. They will play today but I doubt many of the squad and staff will be thoroughly focused on football after Saturday's events.

Kinda sad
The sadness continues, despite mostly positive results from their rookie QB/RB combo...memo to Bryce Brown: hang on to the bean a bit better!

Other young QBs review...Luck & Wilson win on the road and Freeman made it close after surrendering a pick6. Let's see what RG3 does tonight!

They seemed to be more focused. Just an odd situation. The guy kills his GF, then goes and thanks the coaches for giving him a chance to pro football and offs himself.

The girl was Jamal Charles' cousin and he and his wife had set them up together. Cant imagine what kind of 2d guessing is going on.

Nick Foles seems like the 2d coming of Joe Flacco. Big guy with a huge arm, give him a decent defense and running game and he will beat the teams he is supposed to. But they dont seem like championship caliber guys.

Living in VA right now is insufferable with all the Deadskin fans who probably couldn't name any player on the team outside of RGIII. Awful.

They do love them some RGIII. So far it seems justified.
