It's true. There are tons of photos of him out partying this off-season. Plus, looks like he bought himself a new set of wheels:

Spotted: Bernard Tomic is his new wheels: a bright yellow Ferrari Spider! Police couldn't help but notice..
Doesn't bode well for 2013 to be any better for him in terms of success on the court.

Any Aussies here?

What do you think of the fact that this is the guy who will be upholding your great tennis tradition over the next decade?

I feel sorry for the Australian people here, they will still have to rely on Hewitt to carry their nations hopes for anything, and he will be calling it a career very soon I believe. I also believe Hewitt will become the #1 Australian again in 2013, probably ending the year ranked between 15-30.

I'm an Aussie and in my opinion he won't be upholding anything.
On what we've seen so far he lacks character and guts.

Tl;dr version

Tomic sucks. I don't know what crack people are smoking to think he'll be good, but it must be some pretty good stuff.
The tomic that everyone saw was the tomic that made some runs in the 2011 where he reached the qfs (lost to djokovic) and 3rd round at the AO (lost to Nadal). Hes young and promising solid player doesnt do anything really great but solid all around. Time will tell how he fares on the tour but people shouldnt get on his case just yet HES 20 YEARS OLD

Hewitt was #1 in the world at age 20.

You would think after the year he's had Tomic would be doing everything he can to try and get his stuff together, but it is increasingly obvious now that tennis is not a top priority for him. Between the off-the-court incidents and no change of coach, I think his 2013 could be even worse.

Don't forget he is a complete mental midget and an a-hole too

It is really unfortunate that thanks to our fantastic (and unfortunately now very distant) tennis heritage any Aussie player with promise is almost set up for failure before they start.

I'm only in my early forties but the tennis school I went to as a kid had produced Wendy Turnbull and a young kid called Pat Rafter was just another hopeful competing with us in regional tournaments. And you'd still see plenty of ex Davis Cup and Grand Slam champs around the courts of Brisbane.

Blind Freddy can see that Tomic has gone off the tracks and needs a reality check to bring him back if he has any hope of fulfilling his potential. Unfortunately with the Ferraris and glamour lifestyle we have another Philippoussis in the making. It may be the best thing for him is to completely crash and burn at the 2013 AO so he is forced to chose what he wants and who he needs to help him get there.

P.S. Our highest ranked player is now Marinko Matosevic who has an even more dour game than Tomic.

If you can believe it, 6 times.

Basel: R32 Mikhail Youzhny L 0-6, 2-6

Shanghai: R64 Florian Mayer L 4-6, 0-6

US Open: R64 Andy Roddick L 3-6, 4-6, 0-6

Gstaad: R32 Benoit Paire L 0-6, 4-6

Barcelona: R32 Albert Montanes L 0-6, 7-5, 5-7

Indian Wells: R128 Gilles Muller L 6-4, 6-7(4), 0-6

As a comparison, Federer has been bageled 4 times in his entire career, 3 of them coming from 1999 when he was 18 and 1 coming from the French Open final with Nadal. This would mean, of course, a 9 year period in his tennis career when he never suffered a bagel. I haven't looked into it, but that must be the record.

Default Slav to Love

There's nothing wrong with this lad that a large helping of humble pie and a tough coach wouldn't cure. However, unless he's able to lure Lendl away from Murray and hire him to whisper, "Remember, thou art mortal," in his ear I don't think he's going to get one any time soon. Certainly not as long as he has dad with the bellows clipped tightly to his son's fundament furiously pumping hot air.

Anyone so dumb and so comically arrogant as to discount the words of Tony Roche, John Newcomb and Pat Rafter in favour of the wisdom of Ignori Dadaknownothink deserves to spend his career languishing in the low 50s. As he stands now he has all the charm (and the hairstyle) of a old toilet brush and I would imagine that sponsors feel the same way.

His only other chance might be to turn to the good book for answers, "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." I think I'll wait for the next big thing from Oz tennis just the same.

I have been impressed by his play sometimes. It's more than I can say about any of the other young players.

He's still young. maybe he'll get tired of partying after a while and will decide to get serious about tennis.

His game is eclectic, sometimes fun to watch, but it's not slam winning pedigree, obviously. He'll be like Santoro(not really- but), he'll win a couple of big matches against top players, give a couple of players fits, and maybe one day will stop giving up/tanking in matches and be a tough out for players.

I basically agree with the OP though.

I think it was Todd Woodbridge who made a fine observation about him at last year's AO. He thought his shot selection was like a club player at times insofar as he goes for the cute shot for no reason or takes the pace right off the ball even when he has plenty of time for no apparent reason. He looked like a ball feeder to Federer at times during their game lobbing sitters over the net for him to blast away for winners. Woodbridge observed then, as have many others since, that a proper professional coach wouldn't put up with that dross for ten minutes but tell him he had to redline his game if he wanted to play with the big boys.

Isn't it a bit late for Tomic to totally overhaul his game? He's 20 years old.

Maybe Mr. Philippoussis could step in and teach him a few things about spending money like it's going out of style and breaking into the top 10, and maybe even making a couple of major finals.
In all seriousness, he'll likely end up in jail or something.
