A tennis novice doesn't simply stick his racket out and return a Sam Groth serve. So naturally, I did some searching, and this guy not only is in a very successful band, but also coaches a junior player. Very interesting... |

Was in a band. LMFAO called it quits.
RedFoo knows his way around a tennis court. He competed as a junior in the SoCal section. Big tennis fan (seems like he was in the stands at every match televised at the US Open) and is even starting his own line of tennis wear. |

Are you SURE he played as a junior?
We all know, rocking left and right like that, swinging the racket, is NOT good for vision and concentration for returning any kind of serve. He holds a clumsy continental grip, arm stiff and too extended. He's only blocking the backhand. On the second return, he's trying to swing out at a body shot forehand side using the same conti grip. Did he play junior tennis in 1969? |

Well, he's just clowning around with the 7 year old.
Everything hit conti grip, back to the kid. But he proved he can easily play at the 4.0 level, maybe not successfully, but competitively. |

That tells me the rocking was just him goofing around. The bit where he really prepared and split steps tells me he knows at least a bit about returning a big serve. And the conti grip tells me he probably knows his only chance to get the return back is to block it. On the second return, he switched to a semi-western grip for the forehand at 0:10, not that it helped him much.

He's obviously just goofing in those videos but, you can easily tell he's actually pretty decent if not but a bit stiff.

Read an interview about this guy saying that he wants to play some '10k futures' events in the US and that he used to 'play juniors' with the Bryans. So I wanted to look him up. Seems like yet another celebrity vastly exaggerating their tennis ability. He has no ITF junior record and he's 38 years old this year.
and he has 3.5 level volleys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeu2k3zQyE0

Those volleys look pretty decent to me. Definitely someone who has spent a decent amount of time on the court.
