Angell Sport Frames

Angell frames have definitely peaked my interest lately.

Currently hitting with a C10 Pro that I'm trying to mesh with, but I'm thinking about Angell for comparisons sake.

Just curious to opinions? Decent Stick? Or uncontrollable mess? haha

I'm a primary baseliner keeping the ball out of the middle of the court to get short balls and to put points away at the net. My serve is my biggest weapon with a big flat serve and heavy slice/kick serve. Thus the extended length and 70 RA stiffness, really want to produce a stick that plays to my game with my serve and ground strokes.

Definitely prefer 16x19 open string pattern to the livelier feel/action on the ball. Love a 10 Pt. HL balance

Just trying to find the perfect mix. Love the plush feel of my C10 but looking for a little crisper response.

Played with an extended length racquet before and loved the results. Don't come to net much but when I do I put it away, rather than going for touch unless I have to or playing I'm doubles. I do want it to be maneuverable tho so I'm between the .25 or .5 extension.

Oh and looking for a swing weight in the 320-330 range.

I assume those are unstrung specs?

Interesting set-up. My own opinion is that it seems a little too headlight for something less than 340 grams. 5 or 6 pts tends to work better in that weight range since it puts more back into the head. A racquet 7 pts or more headlight with a lack of mass can lead to stability issues. More head heavy will also help on your serve if you can generate the same racket head speed.

Just my take. Good luck with it and let us know how it plays.

Yes all specs are unstrung. Figured the 11.4 frame will probably be 12 oz. strung and the 11.7, 12.2-4.

But that's the final decision I'm trying to make. On their website at 11.4 Oz. 7 Pts. headlight is the lowest you can go, at 11.7 Oz. 9 Pts. headlight is the lowest.

I'm thinking the lighter frame at 10 Pts. would be too flimsy if I'm playing bigger hitters so if I chose that I would go 7 Pts. HL.

The heavier frame I'd feel better at 10.

My two Volkl frames are both around 12+ Oz. and 8 & 10 Pts. HL respectively, but I haven't experienced stability issues with either.

May send Paul an email and see what he thinks.

Hi Stringers,

IIRC, the Angell frames (just like the 'old' Vantage frames' are foam filled throughout, which means that they will have a higher swingweight than other brands' frames that are not. So with the same specs, the Angell frames will feel more solid and less flimsy than non foam filled frames. You might want to take that into account. But I guess Paul will validate that.

Thanks for the reply. That makes me feel better going with a higher HL balance. The extended length would add some mass too, no? Any opinion on how that would affect the stability?

Extended length does not add mass, as the static weight of the frame can be made the same as a standard length frame, but the added length will definitely add swingweight, making it feel a bit more sluggish.

I'm not sure how it would affect stability. Not much, if anything, I'd say.

My initial take is I like the Vantage pj better. It is more subtle and you can do all balck, all white, etc. It has more of a custom look to it. The new design got a big logo on it but since it is an unknown brand it looks like some cheap frame from a 2nd tier co. nobody heard of.

Agree 100%. Vantage had more "market value".

I would go for an almost all blacked out racquet with a very small logo

Sure he would have kept the Vantage name if it weren't for the lawsuit!

The name doesn't matter. It's a damn giant logo on the stick. Do a small logo and less contrasting text.

Of course it had more of a following it must of been 5 or 6 years old.These things take time but the quality of the product will lead people to realise it's the same quality avaliable we've always known.

Totally agree Dave. Paul would have been better staying in the UK market. Shame he got stung by an unscrupulous shark. A good product backed up with good service will win out in the end. Not tempted to try Angell again?

Personally I couldn't care less what the logo looks like. Matters not a jot to how the racket plays does it? Think you are barking up the wrong tree!

No, because in a business pov it is all wrong. This will end up hurting sales and brand image. If nothing is done to adjust you will not have these sticks in the market anymore.

Sure there will always be a market for a quality product for those who can see past a slightly too large logo! If it bothered me I would just put some tape over it. It's no more obtrusive than some other companies logos but each to their own I suppose. As taste is subjective sure there will be those out there who love it.

My own POV is that I prefer the old Vantage styling but times change and obviously the racket name/branding had to change. I play with a racket that is plain fugly at times but for me the performance is more important than the styling.

Do the Angell frames have the same semi-gloss semi-matte finish of the Vantage frames or are they a glossy finish?
