See, that's the thing. It all comes down to strength of schedule. Iowa is scheduling BCS bowl teams as non-conference opponents (and kicking the crap out of them). While Alabama hasn't even played a single BCS bowl team yet this year (and played West Carolina in the heart of the season to pad their schedule). Imagine if Bama had to play Iowa's brutal schedule. They'd be lucky to be .500

The first three SEC coaching hires represent three distinct approaches...Stoops @ Kentucky is a defensive specialist, Bielema @ Arkansas takes over an air attack and will scrap that in favor of a ground & pound attack, and Malzahn is the gadgeteer devoted to the spread. Tennessee is reportdly interesting in ex-Florida assistant Charlie Strong. That will a double dose of "D" to the SEC East. '13 may be very interesting!

Auburn doubled their offer to Jimbo Monday night and he still turned it down. So he is staying true, and most likely used it as leverage for a raise here.
We just need an OC and a QB, and I think Jimbo will be in great shape. He simply should not be calling the plays - too many hats.

Strong turns the Vols & AD Dave Hart down to stay at new ACC member Louisville. The irony...ex-FSU AD may go from one former UF assistant to another in current UNC HC Larry Fedora. Word is he wants a guy with former/current HC experience...that eliminates the "Smart" choice (Kirby Smart asst. @ Bama). It brings in retreads like Butch Davis or even Phil Fullmer. Hart also has ties to Chuck D'Amato but that would take some cogliones to justify the choice.

Kirby Smart is so good. I am amazed they would not interview him. That honestly surprises me.

One of my co-workers mentioned that LSU and Florida are threatening to leave the SEC. Anything behind that?

I don't see either LSU or Florida leaving for the Big-12 (I think that was the rumor.) It was a rumor started on some board, I think. Bama, LSU, and Florida have been the top 3 teams of the SEC the past 10 years.

Red Invasion Strikes Orlando in 3+ Weeks...our two bowl games feature red on off-red (Rutgers vs VaTech) and a full-fledged red on red (Nebraska vs Georgia). I hope to be seeing green that week...much of the fanbase and all of the teams stay at hotels in the area I work as a pedicabber. Nebraska is making a consecutive appearance and their fans travelled fairly well. Georgia is a given. Rutgers and VaTech??? NJ-ers might be a little sidetracked still by Sandy. As for Hokies, I would hope the enthusiasm is still there despite lower results in the regular season.

I cant imagine that but if they thought it would make them more money then anythngs possible. I just got home from work and turned on SportsSouth and they have the 1985 football game between Clemson and Virginia on and all the refs were wearing white shorts. Looks hilarious and I never knew they did that.

Butch Jones, Cinci's HC, has accepted the Tennessee HC spot. Ironic that ex-Vol Peyton Manning contacted Jones in hopes of wooing Jones to Colorado University just prior to Vol AD Hart's decision to pursue Jones.
Jones has had success twice replacing Brian Kelly at programs and subsequently winning conference titles. UT is a big step up to compete with the likes of Spurrier, Muschamp, Richt & Co. for just a division title.

The University of Nevada's football head coach Chris Ault - one of the real 'good guys' in the sport - is retiring after 28 years.
Offensive innovator and architect of the "Pistol" offense.

Congrats to Mik on that big Clemson win! Best game of the bowl season, IMHO. A little ACC redemption against one of the SEC powers. ACC finally looking at a decent bowl year. Even my Chokies pulled in a win and Duke played a solid game. Should finish 4-2 after FSU plays. Happy new year to all.

If enthusiasm displayed by team and fanbase while in town is any barometer of onfield success in the Cap One Bowl, big bad SEC Georgia will also have their hands full today vs Nebraska. The Huskers came to town a week ago and it's been a sea of Great Plains Red everywhere on I-Drive.

Was glad to see Clemson pull that game out.
Did anyone just see maybe the worst call imaginable in the Mich/South Carolina game? Mich tries a fake punt and gets very close. The measurement is clearly an inch or 2 short yet the ref still gives them a first down. Spurrier goes berzerk nd I dont blame him. Clowney takes care of the shitty call on the next play and almost decapitates the RB, causing a fumble and recovers it but the fact the ref cant even look at a ball sitting still and rule the correct call is unbelieveable.

That Clowney hit was nasty. He also had a nasty hit on Ellington in the Clemson game.

Clowney hit may have been one of the best in the history of football. I loved it.
FSU game was a yawner. Seemed like we could have run it the whole time and won by more, but Jimbo wanted to let EJ chuck it around. I will really miss our Seniors.
