In leagues, correct.

Before the league doesn't care why you didn't finish. If you start a match but don't complete it, it is a retirement regardless of why.

Can you not be suspended for misconduct from league tennis?

Read the rules again.

LOL. ok.

Definition of Retirement:

A retirement occurs when a player is unable to continue playing a match or
resume a suspended match because of injury, illness, personal circumstance,
or adult discipline. Refusal to play for any other reason is treated as a default.

Definition of Default (Refusal to Play):

A default also occurs when a player refuses to play or continue to play for
reasons other than injury, illness, or personal circumstance. Examples of
this type of default include refusing to play in order to get home sooner or
in order to participate in another sporting event.

So, as I said, unless the OP comes in and adds to his story, based on the rules, how could you justify a player walking off court in a huff being a "retirement"?

Oh, boy.

1) If that is the angle you're going to play, how can you be right and I be wrong at the same time? Making a special case for your argument I see.

2) 2.03M Retirement. A retirement occurs when an individual match
has started and a player/doubles team is unable to continue due to
injury, loss of condition, emergency or refusal to play.

What you quoted does not apply unless the OP is a junior and getting "points" towards a suspension.

Edit: PS: Instead of just Googling and posting what you read on Yahoo! answers, try looking up the USTA league regulations itself.

2013 USTA league regulations glossary of terms..

"Retirement: Occurs when an individual match has started and a player is
unable to continue due to injury, loss of condition, emergency or refusal to
play. Retirements are entered in TennisLink with the final game count for
NTRP calculation purposes (e.g., 2-6, 1-3) and the system will automatically
credit the individual receiving the retirement with sufficient games as to make
them the winner of the match (i.e., 2-6, 6-3, 1-0) for determining standings."

Touche.

I'm glad I stated earlier in the thread that I don't know anything about leagues. LOL.

However, it's still not clarified in the thread that this was actually a league question. Also, what I quoted does not only apply to a junior player.

Default just read through these responses...

sorry, was away for a bit and just read through responses.
our rules state "if any player leaves the court before a match winner has been determined, they default the match"

That is what prompted my original question - I appreciate the responses, I will check with Local League person........they have been slow to respond.
