give me your thoughts
It depends who the 7 or 8 coaches are, your relationship with them, and the level of trust between you and them. Coach: I don't agree with TCF. The pros for your player are a long shot- but possible. Especially with the improvement he is showing. The only logical route to the pros for him is through college. Have you seen the roster at UVA? Imagine practicing with those guys 20 hours a week with top notch coaching, and playing matches against some of the best players in the country. I think the entire group of young Americans need college first. Your player may be an Isner or Steve Johnson. He is not a Harrison. Honestly coach ask yourself how much your bias against college is about not wanting to give up control of your player's career. It is an emotion we all have and very legitimate- but is it in the best interests of your player?

Nice posts TCF.

What Brad and his son have accomplished with so little is nothing short of amazing.

Losing control is not a problem he spends a majority of time on his own already will be for the next month in Fl. Without pops , my problem with college is tennis today is a real full time job on tour , college there are study's that take place after long hours in the class room then you get a little practice 2 hrs a day , extra time is for sleep and rest .

At this point you must give Tai credit he knew how he needed to play and he did it and i shook his hand and told him smart playing and it was .
Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not making excuses for him. Not having been there, mine is just an observation on paper. The best thing I'm hearing from you is it appears you're viewing the experience from a much clearer lens and most of all learning from it. That will make him a better player tomorrow and that's a great take away from the week.

Good to see you and TCF are settling down the vitriol.

GREAT week of tennis.

DB beat several players ranked top 150 ITF. He beat # 20 Coric who is going to be an amazing player.

Reaching the quarters of the OB at age 16 is a huge accomplishment. He now must be fired up, is heading to work at an academy and should see even more improvements to his game having a steady supply of hitting partners.

What they have accomplished so far, with little outside help and lack of hitting partners, is nothing short of amazing.

I hope DB continues his path towards his dream and wish him all the best. He did American tennis PROUD this week!!
Best post of 2012!!!!!!!

Practice at the very top schools will be at or near the NCAA limit of 20 hours a week. That is more than enough to prep for a pro career. Yes there will be 10-12 hours a week of class and some homework but that part is very doable. On the pro tour it is hard to train and get the right variety of hitting partners. You have to be a finished product just needing match toughness and play. Did the coaches at UVA and USC tell you he should be looking to go pro? I don't think so. Those schools would be perfect to get him ready for the next level. I have more faith in those colleges and coaches than the Academies.

Now we're getting somewhere. Nice evolution of this forum.

Along those lines, I am looking for a host for my jr. player for F1-F3 the first 3 weeks of Jan. Looks like they are all in the same general area: Plantation, Sunrise, Weston FL.

If anybody knows anybody that may be interested in hosting a 17 year old USA boy going for his first atp points, lets talk more. Thanks!

Nice to see Elias Ymer doing so good these days! Sweden needs another top player soon. Even though Norway doesn't seem to produce any top players we have to enjoy the success of the swedes

Chieface this was a solid win this kid was playing a pusher style the day before against a kid and I thought DB was gonna buzzsaw him next thing i know they are trading huge groundies and long rallies the 1st set and Borna took it , DB continued till he made his way through him but this kid was NO joke by any means .
Sounds like he has as legit a shot as anyone. You probably don't even remember, and jokingly or not years ago I remember when you were thinking of switching DB to a one hander. That two hander was way too buttery and smooth to ever abandon, but how is his forehand right now? When he arrives at the academy I would have someone check his left arm and how he gets it out of the way on that side. It still appears as though there is a very slight hiccup in there. I'm just going off of what I see in his most recent hitting videos, but it does look better than a year or so ago with Krajinovic and Nishikori.

Congratulations on all the success. To me when a kid has a legit shot to go for the highest level the people around them should be helping as much as possible. Seems the "board" is finally a little more on board with a positive approach which is nice.

Best of luck in his training, you can't teach height

Hey rgwarren, not sure where Abby is heading after Port Saint Lucie, but if there is time we may be able to have the girls hit. We are about 40 minutes south.
I can contact her dad and see what he says, they are pretty booked though. I think shes got USTA training and heading to Sarasota to open up a Bryan brothers event right before the Orange Bowl. It's a nice offer though. ,,,,From what I hear she's got a tough draw, but the #1 seed lost today to the girl that Abby beat in Eddie Herr. all the draws are posted at www.nikejuniortour.com

Please don't under estimate the benefits of a college education....

I say try college stay for 4 years like Johnson or go the Kosakowski route if he isn't benefiting from college.. then leave and go Pro!!

Glad to see DB is on the move up
