Indeed. I don't think it would be fun to be gay and living in places like Iran or Pakistan. But a lot of people there seem to have strange notions on lots of subjects, not just homosexuality. But given the legal situation(s) in the United States, you could say similar things with regard to homosexuality, although the murder of gay people is not sanctioned by law in the USA, but sometimes happens regardless.

Hall of Fame drops Bob Hewitt investigation

Quote:
The International Tennis Hall of Fame has dropped its investigation of Bob Hewitt and is no longer seeking to remove him, the Boston Globe reports.

Nearly a dozen women on three continents have accused the former South African doubles player of sexually abusing them between the 1970s and early 1990s, when he was their coach and they were underage.

Executive director Mark Stenning told the Globe that the Hall ended the investigation in favor of drafting an undetermined policy to address similar issues.

Even though the Hall of Fame promised to investigate the claims, none of the women who talked to the Globe said they were interviewed. Nearly 250 people from 14 countries signed a petition calling for Hewitt’s expulsion.

But Smith’s longtime doubles partner, Bob Lutz, had plenty to say about the Hall’s inaction.

"The whole thing is sickening,’’ Hall of Famer Bob Lutz told the Globe. "Reggie Bush lost the Heisman Trophy for much less than Hewitt is accused of doing as a player. Hewitt should be kicked out of the Hall."

Moose, that wasn't going to fly. Did they think it would go away ?

The report found the allegations against B. Hewitt credible. And he has been "indefinitely suspended" from the HOF.

Convicted by news reports? We do not need a lynch-mob mentality.

the hall of fame conducted a thorough investigation and suspended him
based on their findings not news reports

This guy was hired to lead the investigation.

As someone pointed out earlier, the HOF would not necessarily have the resources or experience for such an investigation. Many law firms would. According to the reports, Hewitt was (unanimously) suspended based on the findings in the report delivered by that attorney.

HOF means nothing to tennis. What really is meaningful is the bunch of doubles majors that qualify Bob Hewitt as one of the best ever doubles players.

As for moral purposes, I can agree with the decision.

i´m fairly certain that being inducted into the hall of fame means something
for those who are inducted.

I don't understand the reasoning. Isn't infamy also a kind of fame?

Did any of you ever watched Hewitt playing doubles?

i think it´s about time to talk about his game.

He is the guy I´d pick to pick doubles.if he was not available, then I´d head off for Frew Mc Millan.

I wish you all the luck in the world, discussing this man's game or accomplishments in this thread. I really do.

i just hope Frew doesn´t hear about being second choice
why don´t you start a thread about the legendary partnership of Hewitt/McMillan?
