Prince Boron generation playability differences?

Good points guys.

I used a Ripstick which is 2 inches longer and can crank the serve on occasion. However the last few months the Ripstick has been hurting my wrist so I've mothballed it. I used a CTS Graduate (nice feeling stick) and a Babolat Pure Drive GT - again nice - but neither felt like the right fit. Both seemed heavy through the air.

I used POG OSs in the 80's and remembered them as really mobile so I thought I would try POGs again (the Boron was just an impulse purchase).

Here's the thing that freaks me out.

I'm good for on average an ace every 2 sets in the last 2 years. With the Boron I cracked 6 aces in the first set. I've never done that even when I was younger and stronger. The second set I tried to overpower the ball and didn't do as well.

So, I'm hoping the restring gives me some more feel off the ground but doesn't kill the magic I found when serving. We'll see when I get the racquet back.

And I checked my tracking #'s and there are 3 POGs awaiting me at the post office. One grommetless OS and 2 Mids. We'll see how they stack up!

Update on the Boron.

I got it restrung with RPM Team 17 (at 60lbs. I had asked for 40 but I guess "they knew better" and it's settled at 50lbs).

The power I had on the serves has lowered but I'm getting more spin. So I'm still getting more aces - again about 5-6 per set but it's not through sheer mph but pace and spin. And service winners are up as well.

Still tinkering with string - will try Kirschbaum Spiky Shark 17 next at 35 or 40 lbs and I have my own stringer now so no more hassles with stringer punks who "know better".

And back to back with my POG OS, the Boron is very close in playing feel, with a bit more power.

Highly recommended!!!

PS my USA Boron is at the Mailbox place and I'll pick it up Wednesday - can't wait to hit with it.

You are correct! Yep as I noted I got a stringer - a Klippermate as I figure I may string 5-6 racquets a year. We'll see how that plan works out!

they made a Boron that was extended length that was sold in mostly europe...it was a nice frame. It also had 2 crossbars on it. It was sold more recently than the older (80's) borons I recall.

I thought you meant you got a personal "stringer" instead of a machine..
If you can find them in the USA, get yourself a Stringway manual machine as soon as you feel you need an upgrade on the Klippermate.
Their dropweight system is very accurate since the weight does not have to be level. Any angle will result in the requested tension.

Just picked up my bumperless Boron. Very nice!! It has the old graphics with 3 dots over the i, but doesn't say "Made in USA" like I thought all bumperless POGs and Borons were.

Any experts know the definitive answer?

I'm not sure it's copacetic for the racket MSRP to be over double that of the machine used to string it ! .

Actually I paid $50 used and $75 to ship for the Klipper and the Borons were I think $500 when new so probably over a 2:1 ratio.

Weren't most, if not all of these (including the Wimbledon versions), made by Kunnan in Taiwan?
