Even at this point, fasting is still a home-bsed solution to problems. The real physiological advantages have literally only been observed in nematodes and singular species of mice. These said advantages do not even correlate to humans nor does the research intend it to. That last bit is crucial when studying anything and I mean ANYTHING related to health and fitness when it comes to research studies: did the scientists intend the data to apply to humans? If they did, did they state their opinions on the extrapolated data? The vast majority of scientists do not and have not. Much like the aspartame studies, there has not been a human study that has shown it to be harmful. It has been in lab animals OR in extreme quantities only. If fasting works for you, then go for it. I do say it truthfully when I say that if billions of people think it's the way to go, then there is definitely some merit.

Fasting is not for "Detox" like modern proponents claim, it's to give your organs REST. Mice that fast live 23% longer, those that fast once per week, the same as us doing it once per month.

Fasting also creates HGH

Mice put on starvation diets, basically periods of fasting lived 23% longer.

The reason is not detox, we don't need detox contrary to popular belief. The reason why it helps and lengthens your life is that when you eat, your heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, etc. all have to WORK, so you age your body, by giving them rest your entire being rejuvinates itself. Also fasting produces HGH.

Fasting is big in Britain

NHS says the jury is still out.

The research that NHS cites is interesting if not conclusive. Doesn't sound like it's all snake oil hokum to me.

For Lent, I am fasting from sunup to sundown. It's not hard. I think it's a good physical thing for the body. Of course, the minimal "pain" reminds me of Christ's suffering and the value of His resurrection.

I have done intermitting fasting before. I never really felt hungry or like I was starving myself. Most of the time I felt amazing while I fasted, especially while working out or playing tennis. I was able to decrease my bodyfat % by 3 percent and have all of my lifts go up in weight.
