Smile Question about power pads

Do power pads take away the "ping" sound a stick makes when there is no shock absorber without sacrificing the feel?

I use power pads on mine and it does take it away for the most part. However, if you dink the ball or hit the strings with your hand, you'll still hear it. I find that for me power pads take away just enough of the sound while not dampening the string bed quite as much as a rubber band or dampener would.

However, you need to have properly made pads. I've seen a few people on here just use whatever scraps of leather they could find, but to get the right amount of dampening you need to cut out pieces of leather that are tall enough and wide enough to go from edge to edge of grommet hole. I find that if it's nice and snug up against the string and the string has to cinch it down as you tension it, it's best. But that's my opinion.

Power pads were used to protect natural gut strings against early fraying and breaking with wood racquets, now they are used as vibration dampeners

Go buy a cheap genuine leather belt and cut them out of that. That's what I do. It makes a ton of them. The most boring part is actually cutting them to the right size. Use a box cutter/utility knife to do it.
