My daughter just started getting it together. My initial reaction just watching my father and his it's overkill. He's got it seems access to Amazon as well as some other stuff that he's paying for and everything let him tells it has 15 million movies.lol I think I will like it once I learn to use it. Do you have one? If so, where is all the free stuff. That's what I'm looking for initially.

I've never been a fan of going to the movie theatre.
1. I always thought the monstrous screen size was completely stupid. 2. The worst aspect of movie-going was and is, the vomit inducing judder (the sickening motion blur as the camera pans sideways). 3. the legions of texting idiots, and roving packs of stupid teenagers talking throughout the film 4. and as has been mentioned, the frightening prices for "food." American processed plastic cheese whiz is not exactly food, but it's billed as such. $8 for a small plate of nachos. Joy. 5. ticket prices. $14 on a weekend evening. Also, why don't theatres ever CLEAN THE F'ING SCREENS!!!!! It's so stupid watching a movie projected on a grey/brown, dingy screen. Fortunately, I haven't paid full price for a ticket all year. I've been seeing first run films with free movie passes or at sharply discounted rates with various promotions. Fortunate, since most of the big budget movies released in 2012 have been absolute garbage. I have a pretty nice TV and blu ray player. It is crazy how much better PQ is on a tv vs. the theatre. |

Watching a game at home is a great way to save a few hundred, or even a few thousand dollars. For example in tennis, even at smaller tournaments, you're often going to have a less than ideal view of the action, unless you're in the first row. If you watch on hdtv, the cameras zoom so close you can count the individual hairs on a player's arm; heck, you can even tell which hairs are longer than the others. Sometimes, on directv, they'll show those slow mo replays and you can damn near see the player's fingerprints! |

O I agree with you here. I can see movie theatres as the manager suggested being a thing of the past in say 30 years. By then you will be able to pick up hd T.V for 50 bucks and I'm sure something else will be the in thing but Hd will be standard. Movies will be online. I don't know what that will do for Hollywood because as the manager here said, they are going to find a way to get theirs. I see his point from a manager. I just can't jusify though paying 28 bucks for tickets and then another 17 for bag of popcorn and coke. I think we got out of there with a total of 14 bucks spent because I went early. I only again even go for certain actors or certain movies. This was one of the movies. I've probably seen 3 movies at the theatre this year. Mostly in the summer when I'm also running my lawn service and have a few extra bucks floating around.

on-topic (to beat a dead horse): toting a large bag into a movie theater is waaay out of place imho even if you're a traveler trying to kill time - it doesn't fit the surroundings and can understandably engender feelings of anxiety in others. A large bag is obviously used to transport items from one point to another and wouldn't seem out of place, e.g. in a transportation terminal. They're not something associated with entertainment arenas and why they're usually subject to search/confiscation, bag size limits, etc., that is unless you're a "psycho killer qu'est-ce que c'est" like Bartelby. : -)
