Federer's charisma is his 17 Grand Slams and historical significance, making him the greatest tennis player in the history of the sport. THAT is why people gravitate towards him. Give him 2 Slams and he'd be NOTHING!
Give Nadal 2 Slams and he likewise would not be any kind of hot sh*t because he just doesn't stand out with such little accomplishments. That's how sports work.
Do you think Usain Bolt would be such a big deal if he wasn't the world's fastest man? You gain a natural presence and charisma when you are the world's best.

Federer has oodles of charisma and is the most popular player since Borg and Agassi, hands down. I know you hate Federer, but that does not change the fact that he is popular. Djokovic will never approach anywhere near Federer's popularity no matter how many slams he may win.

The most charismatic and popular tennis players have been: Borg, Agassi, Federer and Nadal. The rest could fall off the face of the earth and it would not matter.

Federer wouldn't have been a big deal with only 2 Slams to his name. Nadal likewise. You have to stand the test of time which means yo prove you're not just a shooting star who fizzled out. Federer and Nadal have been in the game for many years. Their rivalry was red hot before anybody had even heard of Djokovic.

Safin would've obliterated them all if you give him Federer's 17 Slams.

It sure didn't take Fed long to win his 3rd slam.

Safin never had patience with the off court stuff so no I don't think so. It takes a special type of person to be able to handle all of the off court pressures gracefully as Federer does. I don't think Safin was ever that guy.

You have to understand Maria Sharapova made huge deals with companies after she won her first major title back in 04.because she is markatable,She still wins more money off the court then Serena.Look what happened to Djokovic after one best years ever on the circuit 2011 there isnt that much jump for him from the sponsors and the public.I hope you understand my point.

I don't think very much of it has to do with charisma, actually. Federer isn't naturally charismatic. It has more to do with marketing carving out a particular image/brand for an athlete and running with it. They realized that Federer could be marketed as this elegant, classy, Swiss gentleman (of course it helps that he's goat/among the goats). With Nadal, marketing could advance the image of him as a hardworking, never-say-die bull; his physical presence/persona speaks for itself. Neither one of those guys are especially charismatic in interviews.

Djokovic needs a niche as dictated by marketing more than anything else.

Oh come on, Fed has no charisma. He got teased for that early in his career (anybody remembers that personality chart? It was hilarious). What he has is a million slam titles and his ballerina thingy and that's it (I agree with MS on this point). Outside of that he is a crashing bore. Nadal has sex appeal, Agassi is the embodiment of charisma (he was LONG before he started winning slams). Fed would be the quintessential non-descript guy if not for all his records.

Ha ha, can you imagine Davydenko imitating Shakira?? Rofl I can't imagine a guy being less like Djoko than Davy

ETA: Fed is not handsome either and he's rather less approachable/likable

He doesn't have it in spades, no. He's not UNcharismatic but he's not especially charismatic by himself without the image that's been created for him. I'm cool with Fed but he doesn't ooze charisma. Look at Safin for an example of a tennis player who does.

I don't agree with you. For me Federer has tons of charisma and even did when he was in his goofy long-haired stage. I was an Agassi fan and agree he had a lot of charisma but Federer is right up there with him in my book. I agree that Nadal has charisma too but in a different way to Federer. Federer is elegant, Nadal has a boyish charm.

I always though Safin was a big nothing. Never saw what all the fuss was about and never found him remotely attractive. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Kournikova was making more money with companies while winning nothing. They didn't care that she won anything. Still she got bigger deals than the Williams sisters combined for obvious reasons.

What did Safin ooze beyond ******ness? I'm talking about real friendly nature. Fed was raised right, he didn't sleep around. He found Mirka and that was the woman for him. I remember when he kissed her after winning 2007 Hamburg on court, that was a special moment.
