I tried my first set of gut. Was going to try klip legend for some mid priced gut. The stringer was out of it so they subbed Boris becker hero 60#. It's dyed orange and took a about 30 min to break in or maybe it was me getting use to it.

What I noticed first was that it was powerful fr the get go. First serves where moving. The more aggressive I played, the better the ball quality. It shined for me on the bh slice, direction control, punch volleys and even touch and feel shots. Had a great sounding pop after it settled in. It looks really ratty now but there isn't as much notching...just fraying.

Some days it would drizzle a bit so I took out the racquet with PPA at 60# and put the gut away. I follow this thread and decided to try xcel, PPA, multi feel (got TGV by accident) after reading the reviews here.

PPA was ready fr the get go. No break in period. It was just as comfy as the hero gut but a little less power. It had that nice crisp sound on volleys. A good sounding string makes the soul feel good.

I personally will go back to PPA before I try Hero again.

Thanks for the many reviews.

Gamma pro is on my radar too. I heard it took what was good with Live Wire XP up a notch (which I've hit with happily). Excellent power, bite, feel, and plenty comfy. I had it strung up at 57#.
I would agree that Gamma Pro is similar to Live Wire XP, but is a notch above it. Lwxp is great for the price, but my preference is still GPro. I find it to me most similar to Nat Gut of any string I've tried (though tension maintenance is not as good as NG). But I break multis in 6 to 8 hours (regardless of brand) so I typically break them before tension loss is a major issue for me.

So far I'd say X1 Biphase has been the closest playing wise to gut, definitely not as soft. Perhaps the GPro will change my mind there.

According to Gamma their string is superior to NG

I know most people think this is garbage/advertising/marketing/whatever.

But I actually DO prefer Gamma Professional to natural gut. And I've used Babolat VS, Pacific, Klip, you name it.

Don't get me wrong, natural gut is wonderful. But for whatever reason, I find that I enjoy playing with Gamma Pro the most.

Just picked up a pack of X1 Biphase at 30% off. I'm wondering if my lower tension of 50 will allow it to play better for longer. This time I'll track tension loss with RacquetTune.

Mikeler or anyone else, have you guys tried the Donnay X-Micron?

I am demoing a Donnay X-dual gold and it is strung with this stuff - very decent, on the crisp side with good control and still comfort is there. I do not use multis very often, but I am pleasantly surprised with this one.

Hmm, may have to try it in the future.

I do NOT understand the choice of tension
Is the range 53-63 pounds?
If so the the middle of range plus 2 would be 60 pounds, not 50 pounds
Where did I goof?

I don't care about recommended tension. This racket has a flex rating of 52. I had to go down in tension to get some pop on my shots.

Before breakage or loss of tension, The Dead Zone?

I've used PPA in my pro open and it helps tame a little bit of the power as well as having decent spin. I sound like a broken record, but this stuff is great!

No, I meant I break in about a week, or maybe two, depending on how many times per week I play. 6 to 8 hours is about all I can expect. For that duration, Gamma Pro holds tension well enough for me. Towards the tail end, I do notice a slightly more "flying" but typically it's a small adjustment for me and doesn't bother me.

Interestingly, I did not used to break strings that often when I used the Fischer Pro One (I got probably 1 1/2 to 2 times as much life). But these days, I'm using the Gamma T-7 (I have 7 of them and absolutely love them). But for whatever reason, my style of play w/ that racquet is recipe for breaking strings.
