this. maybe i'm wrong but it seemed like agassi used to hit a little earlier than ferrer does. i don't watch alot of ferrer for reasons already discussed (the boring bit) so i could be wrong.

DAVID FERRER THE COURT DESTROYER!
Yea, then why does 99% of the TW forum members find Dustin Brown more exciting in this match.

It has nothing to do with his height, it is his style of play and his personality (or non-personality I should say.) He truly is boring to watch and I never watch him unless he is playing against some player I like and even then, my interest level is not at its highest. He is a player who has a great attitude and fighting spirit no doubt, but he is a bore to watch (for me at least.)

yeah it's amazing how he owns the tall hard hitters.

DP, Sod, tsonga and berdych all have **** poor records against that little man despite their 135 mph serves and 100 mph FHs.

ferrer has trouble against the guys who canhit relatively hard AND move well like the big 4 (minus murray who matches up relatively even with ferrer although I think now that he is hitting his prime he will hold the advantage) since even if he makes them run they are able to counter even stronger.#

guys like tsonga or DP can hit 100 mph FHs easily but if they are forced to run they either lose power or accuracy (they have to take something off or it is UE galore).

It's his return of serve (which I'm sure has been said). He can get into more points, neutralize big servers more often than most people. So, if he get into the point, the second-tier big hitters (Tsonga, Berdych, for example) really have no great advantage over him and he can outrun and outlast them. Sure, sometimes those players can be "on" and can hit enough winners/force enough errors to pull out the victory, but it's hard to do that consistently. Players like Fed, Nadal, Djokovic obviously have more game to rely on if Ferrer gets into the point off their serve and they're still generally better than him.

Ferrer's not a pusher. He hits pretty heavy balls, he's just more of a baseline grinder. He's definitely got something behind his shots.

Witness the excitement in this clip featuring Rafa in just the fourth game of a freshly cracked open match when his lapdog had just started getting the better of him. Game four: this is exciting tennis by the way...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN16WPJ2k7U#t=3m44s

That exciting display of tennis is called "moonballing."
If you would like ot see more such exciting tennis, please refer to the Rosol match. So, his overarching strategy is: either you will succumb to his bullying ground strokes, or he will take his toys home and start moonballing you.

Look at Davydenko. Yes he was boring to an extent as well, but when playing well could hit every groundstroke in the book with pace and precision.
I don't think Davy was boring watch. At his best, he took the ball early and crushed it. Davy was way more offensive in his prime. Ferrer can hit great angles and redirect the ball at will he doesn't have a ton of his pace with his compact strokes. He can be kind of boring to watch if he is just defending and waiting for error. However, he can and does play aggressively when he can. I just question how Ferru can continue to grind out matches week after week without ever getting injured. Is the guy on roids? Ferru probably enters more tournaments anyone else in the top 20.

Davy is super boring because he volleys like USTA 4.0 player at best.
