My 10 year old doesn't know whats in Black Ops or any war game... we don't own a video game system of any kind. Believe me, I'm on your side on the issue as a whole - but I think it's such a large issue that battles have to be picked (no pun intended) and this example is just very tame. There is not one gun in the ad, there are no dark or military colors, there is no aggressive headlines, etc. Now if the racquet was wielded like an AR15 and the headline said "mow down your competition", that's a different meaning and intention. I feel for you on your son's reaction, I'd be shocked if mine had said that and probably feel differently about the ad - different outlook I guess.

we have become insensitive, not stupid.

there is not a person who is pro gun on this board than I am, but as coaching23, "we have a national tragedy" for me it is 30 minutes from my house where my son competed against a kid from sandy hook elementary school whos parents are more pro gun than I am. We have toned down our gun rights and trying to find a solution to this debate, some middle ground, at least show some respect to this sensitive issue. Rocket launchers, flame throwers, dynamite sticks, bombs have no place in tennis in any shape or form.

never owned a video game of any kind,,,,,,,you are in the minority,

flame thrower, bombs and dynamite sticks and rocket launchers are more violent than an AR15 which is a dressed (dark military color) up semi automatic, the ad said "SHAKE UP" another not so friendly term but rather more violent. you are right different outlook.

I realize that. I'm not pro gun either, and am probably in the minority as well. I guess what I'm saying is that this, and the tennis world in general, is so much more tame than other sports and hobbies that it seems like a bit of an overreaction.

here is a direct quote from where I posted this directly to BABOLAT

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showp...&postcount=515

one poster said the message is to promote BABOLAT as LETHAL WEAPON, do we really need to know that BABOLAT is a LETHAL WEAPON? LETHAL WEAPON is not a peaceful term our racquets are just tools in a sports game,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Dunno maybe they are lethal weapon which is why they do not allow them in cabins of planes right after 9/11

maybe I am overreacting but the issue is so close to home and raw that I could not help but notice it.
thanks, i agree, our sport is tame compared to other sports. I want the best for our sport, to be the purest sport,,,,, a role model. But we do have our share of skeletons in our closets, we do have crazy parents that will do anything to win, tennis stars that are doping and racquets companies that will do anything to make money even if they harm us etc... IF Babolat pulls this ad it will get the marketing attention 10000 folds, if they do they owe me big time for the idea

I understand. I do hope the country has a serious debate about the issue (although I don't think the Bab ad will ever be seen like the Matell ad).

maybe not now but you never know,

I do not know what they took in the 60's? maybe LSD but even the Beatles John Lennon saw nothing wrong with their ad in 1966, too dumb and stupid to post the photo but you get the point,

I'm not sure that one can simply dispense with the distinction between photography and advertising when we find images that disturb us and the butcher LP cover is photography.

OMG would you please just lighten up!!!!!! I find it interesting that all the toy gun ads and toys were from the late 50 to the 70s before they were stopped....I remember moving to the USA from Europe in the 60s and we ALL had the Agent ZeroM, Johnny Seven, James Bond, Man from Uncle...toys and guns.

It's the generation raised in the 80s and 90s that didn't get to play with toy guns and watch "violent" TV cartoons like Space Ghost, Herculoids, Bugs Bunny, 3 Stooges...etc that seem to be the issue the last 20 yrs.

it is the parents (who grew up in the 50/60) who are raising their children who are partially to blame. They also smoked and knew nothing about smoking ads. Huston "come to where the flavor is come to Marlboro country" LOL!!!!!!!

The same day all those people got blasred at Sandy Hook some "crazy" Chinese dude ran through a school and Stabbed 20 plus kids , Violence has been here since Cain and Able

I am sick of people saying Look what that gun looks like or that gun can hold 15 bullets and should only be able to hold 8 ,MY question whats better 8 dead people or 15 ???? THE ANSWER 1 and there is where we are missing the point life is important and through our teachings over the years of SElf love,Self this, Self that, we have now a people that dont give a crapp about anyone but themSelves and the only life that matters is their own and what they want !!!!!

We need every law Abiding citezen to carry a gun and when some idiot decides he wants to take a bunch of innocent lives we all can take care of our own,

Do we need a professional to do this NOOOOO because these crazys are not Pros but they are getting the job done killing people .

^^^^^^ were you a law biding citizen when you were Hmmm 15-25 didn't you take a bat to school and got expelled weren't you a gang banger crips once? gang bangers were and are mowing each other in the streets of LA, even with machine guns we can not take them out, ( north hollywood gun fight 1997)

BTW I agree with law biding citizens owning/carrying guns,,,,,,,,, just that there are gray areas,

Veterans in schools?!?!?! some veterans have PTS and can go loco ala fort hood doctor who treated them

99% of my non tennis adult friends really believed Andy made all these shots, can you imagine what a 10 year old kids would believe?

I guess Head is doing it to a lesser extent with their ad depicting racquets are weapons like guns and are cool.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOcwj5IHh2o

cowboy west music and gun case as well

I'm just glad Head is making tennis look cool to kids. God knows we need an image overhaul or were gonna be stuck with mediocre athletes at best. I also know the tragedy hit really close to home for you so I do understand your feelings. It hit close to all of us.
