I'm going to go with Suarez Navarro and Stephens. I think that Carla can bag a smaller MM cc tournament sometime during the season and Sloane can get a US Open Series, maybe Carlsbad or New Haven. Also, I'm going to say Peng as well even though she isn't on the list. She played a good tourny at Shenzen and can play an all surfaces.

Just played each other today.

Ya that draw was a no win situation right. I like both.of them and think both have serious potential...stinks where they landed.

The rankings may change dramatically this year when the over-the-hill gang starts losing.

I would also throw Mchale into this list. I think she might be able snag a MM event somewhere with a good draw. Her game has some holes but no more than at least half of those women.

Robson & Stephens I think, and who doesn't want Coco to get a title. But then, I don't know anywhere near enough about most of the rest...

Stosur coughs up another loss, to Zheng this time. Not great prep for her home slam...

She'll be well.prepared for how to handle being bundled out in the first round. As bad as she does on her home turf she would be better off skipping it entirely.

Man, who should I root for in the WTA?

Serena's an awful human being, Sharapova shrieks and is fairly humorless, Azarenka is somewhat likable but howls like a banshee, and Venus is a sad shell of her former self.

I like Radwanska for her excellent touch and drop volleys, but she doesn't really have many weapons to hurt the top gals.

The non-Sharapova Russians all seem to be head cases that I can't really relate to.

Hope one of the young ladies can get their stuff together soon. I don't need the second coming of Graf, but even another Hingis would be great.

The womens game desperately needs a fresh young face in at least the top 10. I'm sure it is starting to get boring for non tennis fanatics, always seeing a Vika Serena final or Vika Maria semi.

For sure. Though, I have to say that Serena/Vika is an entertaining match-up for me. Just because Vika is, at this point, about the only player who can hang with Serena when the latter is even moderately GOATing.

But I'd love for Stephens or Robson (or better yet, someone totally out of nowhere) to have a breakout year.

Safarova lost in straight sets to 17 year old American, Madison Keys yesterday.

cibulkova just handed kvitova a couple of breadsticks (beat her 1 and 1). yeah, cibulkova isn't exactly a slouch but what is wrong with kvitova? did she just run into the wrong player on the wrong day, is she still "hungover" from winning wimbledon 2 years ago or has she already peaked?

Word is she had an asthma attack a few days prior to that match. I'm beginning to think she has more of an anxiety attack to deal with the pressure of being at the elite level.

Ivanovic's game is going to be of interest this year - she seems to be happy with Nigel Sears, and I think she might be able to take a serious run at one of the slams.

Or we'll just be left screaming "What's wrong with her?!" at the tv...

Stephen's just fed Halep a bagel to make her way into the Quarters at Hobart. Disappointed her & Robson drew one another in R1, but Stephens could grab her first title her - would be a great start to her 2013. Beginning of a break out year maybe..?

If Stephens wins her next match against fellow American Lauren Davis, she'll secure a rank of 25th (passing Venus). Not bad for Sloane. Though it's not likely, if she wins this tournament she'll end up 21st or 22nd, passing Jankovic (hah, hah...)

yeah, i watched her first set at the hopman against the spanish chick. ana lost that match but during the first couple games of the first set she was hitting the ball well, particularly off the fh wing. it didn't seem like she had the yips on her serve like she's had in the past. i didn't see the rest of the match so i will temper my optomism, but this is closer to the "old ana" (the one who won the french) in a while.
