What do we have here are families with no older brothers, but sisters or 8-10 year olds boys or girls with helicopter parents. The only parent who has older brothers did a report on weapons by age 12 and the teacher freaked then posted a poll on how neat it is to own a flamethower on a tennis message board,,,,,great
Can't wait for TCF to come in here and turn this whole debate upside down. Last edited by Pro_Tour_630 : 01-08-2013 at 04:43 AM. |

Protour...I am not a gun nut or an anti gun nut. Grew up in a family where there was one hand gun for self defense and a hunting rifle or 2 that was used for pheasant or deer hunting. All the kids were taught to respect how lethal they could be, the guns secured from the kids too little to get it.
To me it was just a common sense approach. The hand gun had its purpose, the hunting rifle also was a tool with a purpose. But I can not relate to 100 bullet drums, assault rifles in the house, being able to go to a gun show and bypass some of the checks, etc. That does not seem like the same common sense approach to guns and their place in one's life that I was taught growing up. As far as folks that say every law abiding person should carry a gun to make us safer, I do not buy that. Where would you have it at the beach? At the pool? While coaching a kid and showing them a sport? When the gun man all wear body armor, then what? When the gun men have the element of surprise like they always do and an assault rifle, then what? When trained law enforcement people many times do not take the shot because of all the chaos and bystanders, how are we going to expect average people to start firing at guys with assault rifles in a crowd? Going to use those assault rifles to save you from the big bad government? Iraq had tanks, an army, an air force....they were rendered ineffective in a short time. If the government really wanted to get you, they would, and 100 assault rifles won't help. I do not see the point in living a life that paranoid anyway. To me the issue is not the guns but the place of guns. A hand gun in the house and some hunting rifles....I get it, a common sense and moderate place for guns in ones life. But beyond that, I do not get it. Last edited by TCF : 01-08-2013 at 05:16 AM. |

some handguns are semi automatic, do you agree with those? some have 15 rounds? wanna drop them to 10? so when they want to ban semi automatic weapons, that includes semi automatic handguns? or are you talking about 5-6 shot revolvers, see the devil is in the detail, you give an inch they take a mile. The hunting rifles you speak of some are semi automatic shotgun, that have 5-6 shells, wanna ban those? or only the ones that look black or military color. Black or military color accessories do not kill more people ![]() what about folks who compete in shooting, they go to the olympics, it is a sport, how can they carry their guns to and from the place where they practice? what about collectors for investment purposes? they have hundreds Last edited by Pro_Tour_630 : 01-08-2013 at 06:06 AM. |

You know a lot more about the issue than I do ProTour. My goal is to retire to a country someday where violence is less common. I hear New Zealand is beautiful!

They are the same gun, a .22 caliber rifle, everyone would assume B because it looks more scary and military looking, an assault rifle, when in fact they are the same gun, B is dressed up in some cheap plastic, thats all. The Sandy Hill shooter used gun A to shoot his mother 4 times in the head. He used the very small caliber because it had less noise, he was smart and not insane.

"Many" is not a generalization. "Most" and "99%", as you've said, are generalizations.

Gun control is very easy. You classify the weapon and license the access.
Category A: Rimfire rifles (not semi-automatic), shotguns (not pump-action or semi-automatic), air rifles, and paintball markers. A "Genuine Reason" must be provided for a Category A firearm. Category B: Centrefire rifles (not semi-automatic), muzzleloading firearms made after 1 January 1901. Apart from a "Genuine Reason", a "Genuine Need" must be demonstrated, including why a Category A firearm would not be suitable. Category C: Semi-automatic rimfire rifles holding 10 or fewer rounds and pump-action or semi-automatic shotguns holding 5 or fewer rounds. Category C firearms are strongly restricted: only primary producers, occupational shooters, collectors and some clay target shooters can own functional Category C firearms. Category D: Semi-automatic centrefire rifles, pump-action or semi-automatic shotguns holding more than 5 rounds. Functional Category D firearms are restricted to government agencies and a few occupational shooters. Collectors may own deactivated Category D firearms. Category H: Handguns including air pistols and deactivated handguns. This class is available to target shooters. To be eligible for a Category H firearm, a target shooter must serve a probationary period of six months using club handguns, and a minimum number of matches yearly to retain each category of handgun. Target shooters are limited to handguns of .38 or 9mm calibre or less and magazines may hold a maximum of 10 rounds. Participants in certain "approved" pistol competitions may acquire handguns up to .45", currently Single Action Shooting and Metallic Silhouette. IPSC shooting is approved for 9mm/.38/.357 handguns that meet the IPSC rules, but larger calibers are not approved for IPSC handgun shooting contests. Category H barrels must be at least 100mm (3.94") long for revolvers, and 120mm (4.72") for semi-automatic pistols unless the pistols are clearly ISSF target pistols: magazines are restricted to 10 rounds. Handguns held as part of a collection were exempted from these limits. Category R/E: Restricted weapons: machine guns, rocket launchers, assault rifles, flame-throwers, anti-tank guns, Howitzers, artillery, etc. can be owned by collectors in some states provided that these weapons have been rendered permanently inoperable. They are subject to the same storage and licensing requirements as fully functioning firearms. Quote:
