Gasquet won an atp250 tournaments after facing a very easy draw until the final. There, he was clearly dominated by Davydenko until he broke physically. It is not that Gasquet was super strong physically, it was that Davydenko was not, and we know that for a long time now. The Doha title is nice but he wasn't really tested there, and it means nothing for the following season to come.

Gasquet has now won 3 tourneys in the last few months. True not huge tourneys but winning from behind can become a habit when the confidence is there.
These wins mean a lot. These wins put him in in the top 10. He could even make it to the WTF again. With Nadal's knee health in doubt things could fall into place. Can he beat Delpo & Djoker back to back? That would be tough but with the right draw, a top player loses...who knows. As a Gasquet fan I fear Delpo the most but he's also had some tough loses to Murray that were winnable. Quote:

- Berdych, Fish, Isner in Canada. - Almagro in Wimbledon. - Murray in Rome. - Tipsarevic in AO. He also defeated Simon (19) to win Bangkok. Somehow I'm only midly impressed... |

Well, you don't get into the top 10 by accident.

All the fire in the world won't chance his court positioning/
He depended on a trademark Davy choke to win Doha, and, in fact his court positioning looked as bad as I've ever seen it. Since he won't fix this, I predict his game will take a (literal) step backwards, and he'll decline from his 2012 results. It's all too fashionable to hype up this guy. |

He has wins of Fed, Djoker, Murray and holds a winning record over Berdych.
I don't think it's hype to think he can get to #8 or #7 in the world and make the WTF. He's done it before. Quote:

I'm not too familiar with Davydenko's career but the announcers mentioned out of 28 career finals he's won 21 implying he was pretty clutch. Where did he get the choker reputation?
Gasquet is my favorite current player but even I thought the match was over after he lost the first set. Sure it was a weak field but there was definitely something different going on inside of Gasquet beginning in the second set. Still needs to work on getting closer to the baseline because when he does his game is really something to enjoy.

He can't beat Novak Djokovic, let alone Nadal or Federer. He might have a chance against Murray but it's very small. He has to beat AT LEAST 2 of them to win a Slam. Therefore he has about as much of a chance of winning a Slam as I do. NONE!

Federer vs Gasquet at the French Open would be the match I would most like to see all year. |

Well, he's gonna need the draw to fall in place for sure but with Nadal possibly sketchy and maybe Birdman will take out one of the other big four. Who knows what can happen.
He's beaten them all just not back to back. Only really fear Delpo.

I say Gasquet has a good run at both the French and Wimbledon this year, maybe getting to the QFs at the French and the SFs and Wimbledon. Ending the year somewhere in the top 8.

Great to see talented Gasquet make his way back into top 20.

Looks like for the first time in years he is showing up in Australia fit and ready to play......in the past he would use the AO tune up events to get in shape and fit. New coaching and maybe just maybe some fire in the belly is starting to develop.

It's not just his mental aggressiveness that is the factor, he has to play more attacking tennis on hardcourts (and grass).
he's actually quite good at the net and during his final at Doha he was coming forward much more often after Davydenko showed some weakness in the 2nd set. If this becomes more of a habit/tactic it will really trouble his opponents.
