Just saw our local Whole Foods is now carrying Sweetwater IPA. I may have to snag a single next time I'm there.

It's been a slow, drip, drip release but I've been able to get my hands on 2 sixers of Lagunitas Sucks Ale. And it's even tastier than I remember. Probably my fave Lagunitas beer (close 2nd is Lucky 13) and glad it will be a yearly release. I've also been drinking Dogfish Head Chicory Stout, also quite tasty, and Sierra Nevada 2013 Bigfoot barley wine. Cold weather and stout beers...a nice combo.
I'll also put in a good word for beerjobber.com. Their selection is limited but for a Virginia boy stuck on the left coast, I was able to get a personal fave, Blue Mountain Dark Hollow, delivered for Christmas. Check it out.

Had a Dieu du Ciel and a Santa's Little Helper tonight at dinner. SLH reminded me of Johnny Black.
Mikeler, I never knew they named a beer company after you.

I am in Jax Beach and was at Mellow Mushroom last night. They had 3 local IPAs to this area. I have not had a beer in 2 months. In the past, I would have ordered all 3 and posted here. Instead I opted for DF 90 since I know that is toe friendly. |

Managed to snag a couple of sixers of Bell's Hopslam yesterday. Not completely sold on the 2013 version - the 2012 was awesome, but this one seemed like it was a little less...awesome? I'll have to sample a few more in order to be able to make a true judgement.

haven't tried the Hopslam yet but some DIPAs tend to be a bit too sweet.

They have Bell's down here in Florida. The two hearted IPA was a top 10 beer for me. I ended up having lunch in St. Augustine on Sunday after leaving Jax Beach in the morning. There were a few local St. Augustine IPAs that looked really tempting but I still had 2 more hours to drive back home after that so I passed. |

Neighborhood store closing out the Winter brews. Tried Brooklyn Winter Ale. Sweet, butter toffee and chocolate. Tasty

I was very pleased with the New belgium Ranger IPA, very hoppy and a good price. I got it for 14.99 a 12 pack.

Wow, this guy's got a good handle on quality brews. I just picked up THREE sixers of Lagunitas Sucks today. Very "bright" tasting hoppy ale. Nothing heavy about it. But still the typical full-bodied Lagunitas style. I love Maximus as my everyday IPA and wait every year for the May release of Lucky 13.alt. I still love Lagunitas Undercover Shutdown, though, as my favorite strong ale. I had a Bigfoot tonight and it's by far my favorite barleywine. Too bad they screwed everything up and went to a 4-pack instead of the 6-pack and added another 15% to the price (now it's $15/6 compared to the old $13/6 that it used to be for the last 10 years). Anyway, Lagunitas is clearly my favorite brewery and I jump on every release they offer, especially the seasonals. I love barleywines, though, and I wish they would release their Gnarleywine again someday. I recently discovered Goose Island Bourbon County Stout (at 15%) and it's absolutely ridiculous. Amazing flavor, aroma, and body, even without aging at all. I can't imagine what this stuff will taste like in another year.

Lagunitas is easily my favorite all-around, every day brewery (also love Russian River but their stuff is spendy). I always look forward to Lucky 13 time and if you haven't tried it, look for their Imperial Red in March/April. It's also fantastic. I like their Gnarleywine Barleywine but agree that Sierra's is better. Bummer that it has dropped to the 4 pack trend and price increase. I actually tried a bomber of Bigfoot Barrel-Aged, ~$15 for the bottle and hated it. It's rare that I like a bourbon barrel aged stout because of the often strong whiskey aftertaste and that taste was magnified with the Bigfoot. It lost all it's sweetness and made the beer malt heavy and bitter with a very heavy bourbon aftertaste. Not a fan. I have a few bottles of Lagunitas Sucks and a few cans of Oskar Blues G'Night Imperial Red for the Super Bowl. A local restaurant had a beer tasting with Oskar Blues beer and the Imperial Red is wonderful on tap. Not quite as good in the can but still good. Happy Sunday to all in this thread. Cheers and enjoy the game!

You don't have to tell me about the $$ spent on quality brews. I don't even want to think about how much I've spent in the last couple of years on beer. Today I picked up another two 4-packs of the Bourbon County stout at $23 each. I bought 5 cases of various beers (Bell's, Founders, Lagunitas) on a trip to PA last year and stacked them up on my basement. Best bet is to just buy when you can afford it and enjoy. Lucky13.alt is one of my favorites and I can't wait until May every year. I love Strong Ales and it's right up there with the best. Of course, when July rolls around, Lagunitas puts out their Undercover Shutdown Ale which blows away every other Strong Ale out there. Love that stuff. We're fortunate to live in the "glory days" of microbreweries. There is just SO MUCH high quality beer out there it's crazy. Yes, they're expensive, but it's so worth it.

So 1 year ago, I drank an IPA for each quarter of the Super Bowl and I think I added one for halftime too. That was the Joe Theisman moment of my beer drinking career because the next day was my acute gout attack.
