Default How do you change grips for different shots.

Do you spin the racket or turn the racket at the throat?

Should the neutral grip be your forehand grip or continental?

I wait with FH grip which is between E and SW. I shift - rotate the racket a wee bit - to the conti righ hand and E/SW left hand for my 2 handed BH. I never spin racket to accomplish a grip change.

I keep both hands on the racket until I start my stroke. Basically, the 1st thing I do is try to recognize where my opponenets shot is going and make the shift to the appropriate grip keeping both hands on the racket during the shift. That 2 hands on for FH and BH

Some 2 handers wait to return with a FH grip on the dominate hand and also have the non-dominate hand in E or SW ready for 2 HBH. I don't do this - I wait with FH grip on dominate hand, and cradle the throat low - just above the handle. I only switch to BH grips when I recognize ball is going to BH.

I stay continental. My non-racquet hand is at the throat. When I know which way the ball is going, I rotate the throat to achieve the appropriate grip on the racquet hand.

I think you should pick how to hold depending on your specific situation.

At the net .... Conti always.

At the baseline or for serve return I hold it in my forhand grip. I used to keep it in a BH grip for my OHBH becasue I wanted to be ready for Backhands. However, my pro noticed that I transition from FH to BH quicker than I transition from BH to FH.

And I always just spin my grip hand ... never with off hand on the throat.

I'm also a hand pronate or superinator, not a throat spinner. I like to keep my racket at a constant angle, about 60 degrees from facing down at the ground...or is that closer to 30 degrees? SW grip forehand, 1hbh backhand.
The pronation needed to switch from ready forehand to topspin backhand is a natural preloading of the arm to hit topspin backhands for me.
Conti grip for fast serves or tentative mind (mine).

I wait with FH grip (eastern with slight shift of knuckle 'tween bevels). I wait on return of serve with my 1HBH grip (eastern) 'cos I find I can spin my racquet to FH grip instantly, but always fall short a bevel or so going the other way when reacting to a serve. My other hand is always on the throat.

At the net I roll continental, and choke up the handle about an inch or so.

I'm a one handed backhander. for serve return i wait with eastern 1hbh grip because i assume that i will get more serves to my backhand. i also move appropriately. i know some people choose to wait with eastern forehand.

eastern forehand is my default rally grip. i change it, as appropriate, using the non-dominant hand on the throat during my shoulder turn. i find it is more precise than spinning the racquet and can help with shoulder turn, disguise (slice vs. topspin backhand) and such.

i change to continental grip as i approach the net and for overheads. for serves i use a grip between continental and eastern backhand, but closer to continental.

Yea, and he was probably the last good player to do that. I wonder if we will ever see another all conti grip player in the top 20.

I always wondered why his baseline strokes looked just horrible. I think it's bizarre any pro could use just one grip but the proof is in his winning.
